Title: Repairing your Soul

A/N: this came to be when i was trying to fall asleep.

He didn't just paper over the cracks in your soul. He filled them in with heavy duty plaster, then smoothed and sanded. He applied a wash of rainbow colors over the whole until you felt brilliant not just with him but alone.

With his open arms and generous heart, you discovered how to be yourself. No need to be smarter, funnier, or kinder. He focused on you with intense thoughtfulness as if every word you uttered contained earthshaking importance. He laughed at your jokes, at your attempts at wit. Not a fake, half-assed laugh but a full-out all teeth and n-shaped eyes. He appreciated your snark, your dark plots and plans by adding his own ideas.

He didn't soften your hard edges or try to blunt them. He simply made room for them the way he made space between his fingers so yours could fit in between. You glanced at your entwined fingers and wondered how it happened.

What could you have possibly done to deserve such happiness? To deserve the love of such a pure soul?

"I love you." He whispered it while a crowd milled and flowed around you.

"I love you, too." Your response proved a little rougher than intended.

He squeezed your hand. "You deserve every bit I give you."

"No, I don't but I'm glad you think so."

"Then smile, baby, because you have the loveliest smile I've ever seen."

So you smiled all the sparkles and colors of your soul. For him.
