A/N: fic for the miss Blue Challenge; pairing - Jia/Min, prompt - Broken Cars
This was how they met. One sweltering afternoon, Jia got out of her adorable but unreliable car and kicked the front driver's side tire. Overheated. Again. Her dad had told her the mechanic fixed it, yet here it was spewing stem from under the hood. Cussing in three languages, Jia kicked the tire one more time before folding her arms over her chest and slumping against the side panel. Sweat trickled down her temples and between her breasts. It made her skin itch where her new - adorable but uncomfortable - bra passed.
She dug two fingers under the under-wire in an effort to relieve the itch. Which, because of how her luck ran, was when a sturdy four door sedan pulled up behind her car. Within seconds, the door opened and the cutest girl Jia ever clamped eyes on bounced to her side. Her side. Where she was slumped, sweaty, and embarrassingly scratching the underneath of one boob. Terrific. Her life officially sucked.
“Radiator, huh?” The adorable girl smiled in sympathy.
“Yea. You know something about cars?”
Her adorable - christ, everything on her appeared to be adorable - chin tilted up in arrogance. “Of course, I know something about cars. My dad has been training me as a mechanic since I was old enough to hold a wrench. Or a screwdriver.”
Jia felt her mouth drop open. The visual of this pocket-sized girl greasy and wielding various heavy mechanic tools was incongruous.
And kinda sexy. Giving herself a mental headslap, Jia shut her mouth and smiled. “Then you know more than me.”
“Pop the hood.”
Jia looked blankly at the other girl. Whose name she realized she didn't know. No wonder she remained distressingly single. Any girl with any sense would already have this sexy little specimen's name and number. And possibly agreement for dinner.
“Never mind. I'll do it.” She opened Jia's car door, bent over, fiddled a bit, and straightened as the hood made a small plunk sound.
“I don't know where the hood-popping-thingy is.” Jia felt color creep up her neck as her rescuer looked at her in disbelief.
“You need lessons in automotive basics.” Pulling a cell phone out of her front jeans' pocket, she said, “Give me your name and number. We can get together sometime and I'll teach you about cars.”
“Really?” Jia felt her heart skip a beat or two. “That would be amazing. I'm Jia.”
“Cool. I'm Min.” After exchanging numbers, Min stuck her head under the hood of the car. “Looks like a radiator hose came loose.”
Jia knew her expression was blank again by the way Min shook her head. The shorter and far more adorable girl might consider her hopeless but there were potential “automotive basics” lessons in the future. She thanked her pretty but crappy car for breaking down at this time on this road.
