"Do you hate your job?"

"No." He swirled the liquid in his glass. "No. I like my job."

"Oh." A look of bafflement, then, "What do you do?"

"I'm in... clean-up."

"Like a maid or something?"

"Or something."

A frown. "And you like it?"

"Yes."

"It doesn't bother you to clean up other people's messes?"

"It's a service. And one I am very good at." He took a sip. "The clients pay well, too."

"Huh. You're lucky. I hate my job. I hate my boss. My co-workers. The whole big ball of bullshit."

"What do you do?"

"Trading. Stocks. Boring shit like that."

"Ah."

"Being a maid isn't boring?"

"My job is never boring. If it ever gets boring, I'll retire."

"What would you do if you retire?" A furrowed brow. "I mean, you can't possibly have made enough at housekeeping to retire at your age."

"Oh, I've saved plenty, but if I retire, I think I'll write novels."

"About what?"

"Hitmen."

"Hitmen? Like assassins for hire?"

"Yea."

"Oh. Odd choice."

"Not at all. I know about hitmen."

"You know all about it from being a maid, huh?"

"Something like that." He pushed the barely touched drink away. "Have a good night."

"Sure, man. You too."

He felt the press of the gun against his lower back, the weight of the gun in the ankle holster on his leg, and smiled. "I've a job to do so I plan to have a very good night."
