These all have very different... "textures". I'm putting that in quotes because obviously the viewer can't reach out and feel the subject matter; however, the way that it was photographed evokes a sense of texture in the viewer's mind. I'd agree with catsclaws in that the bubble pictures- particularly the second to last- can evoke a feeling of revulsion. The third one has a quality of seeming... revolting, to an extent... but if you explore it on a different level it can feel almost soothing.
The last one is definitely my favorite... almost a contrast to "still waters run deep."
It's funny how I don't get that feeling of revulsion. What I got was more the soothing that you describe. Even though it's scum, it still shines (literally), and its own detail makes the scene layered along with the seaweed and out of focus sand.
The last one is certainly good. I think what interests me is building a contrast between the widely accepted beauty of things in the ocean and that which is generally coined ugly. Putting the two together gives a more complete presentation of the ocean.
