Twenty Three isn't an Accomplishment

If the Livejournal front page didn't tell you my birthday is today, now you know. I'm 23. No need for you to fall over to congratulate me, as I didn't do anything to deserve it. This is the day where I get most of the year's posts on my Facebook wall. The whole social custom around birthdays means little to me. Frankly most social customs do. If ( Read more... )

The presents are a result of the perceived social importance of a birthday. Same thing as cake. Presents aren't the point.

Doesn't mean I don't like them, I just don't like what they're tied to. Any day is a great day to give or receive gifts and everybody likes it. No reason is required beyond that.
