Okay I've been terrible about putting enough time into my writing per week, and less noticeably to my readers, not much exercise either. However I did buy a telescope to get me started. It's a Celestron Astromaster 76EQ Reflector which should be enough to get me started. Unfortunately the weather has not been very cooperative, as it is either ( Read more... )

Yeah, I don't know, I looked through 4th edition and there are some cool innovations, I think they sacrificed a lot in the quest to emulate video game style play and make simpler.

And I really really hate what they did with Tieflings.

But unlike a video game, you can axe all the awful content and add better stuff. The more modular approach to design makes this much easier as you can add and take away things without throwing everything out of whack. However, what modular elements they put in were too video-gamey, and they didn't quite carry through with their back to basics design philisophy, so they now have more races and classes than ever.

I'm more interested in the rule system rather than races or classes, especially since they have entirely too many of both, particularly all those redundant classes, or would at least work better as a higher level specialization of more basic classes. This is rather glaring in light of the fact that the rule book points out there is really only four roles classes can operate in.
