Question about Post-JET health insurance

This question goes out to any former-JETs who are back in America. More specifically, this is for anyone who has a pre-existing condition that requires health insurance coverage. Surely the doctor you saw in Japan must have records of your visits and a photocopy of your insurance card?

I had the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from my local Consulate of Japan send my insurance company a letter saying I was insured while in Japan.
