First Time Applicant Here

Yes, I'm a first time applicant to JET. And more than expected, I'm nervous. I've known about the program for years now and since I will be graduating in one more semester, the time has finally come where I can apply. So far I'm on top of my game, requesting letters of recommendation, and gathering documents. Today, the online application was ( Read more... )

I don't remember about the N/A sections anymore, so I can't help you there...

However, for the placement requests, I put down places I felt like I'd like going, but in my interview, they asked me if I'd be okay with places other than my requests. I ended up nowhere near my requests, but I was okay with that.

Thank you for the input. I'm perfectly fine not being placed in my requested areas as well, but if given the chance to pipe up and be able to request them, why not, is my ideology.

As for placements, I was applying with my husband (who didn't get an interview), so I said, I just want to be with so-and-so.. That worked out for me well, as I got placed in Kyoto City as an alternate.

I am applying with my husband this year (he didnt get an interview last year) do you know if they assess you together and individually? Did your husband join you in Kyoto? How is it working out?
I look fwd to your reply :)

Hey, I remember putting N/A for lots of things. I still have my application saved on my computer, and I don't think it's changed much in one year, so if there's a specific question, let me know and I can check to see what I did. I remember totally being confused and nervous about that part. But I got in, so I must have done it right ^^;;

As for your edit, since I was still in college, I just put the end date as my graduation date.

Thank you for the insight, good to know I'm not the only one who is confused on these parts. If you really don't mind, I will more than likely be asking for you to check on some of your application areas.

Also directed to you: Since I have not graduated yet and will be taking teaching courses to my graduation date, should I list the future teaching courses I will be taking next semester? And what would I put for the grade received if I do, since certainly I will not know them by time of the application submission. What did you put, if you were taking education courses?

I did not list courses I was taking in the spring semester, but I did list the courses I was taking in the fall semester that were related. For the grade I put NA (there was a 2 character limit).

Regarding N/A: Select N/A if there's an option, type N/A if there's a blank to fill in, and if there's no way to do either of these things there's really nothing you can do except leave it blank. I think for questions that are clearly linked to the question above, as long as you mark N/A for the first question they'll work out that the questions below don't apply either ( ... )

Thanks for asking these things; I'm also applying for the first time and tend to get hung up on details like this.
