Mine are the big glass sliding window/doors to the balcony, and I combat the condensation by leaving one of them slightly open. Which sucks, but it's all I've been able to think of.

I second leaving a window or two open a crack. Also, if you cook a lot at home, leave a kitchen fan on for quite a while after you're done cooking as well as while you are cooking. I learned the hard way that too much condensation can lead to your electrical system shorting out :x

I roll up towels at the bottom of my balcony windows to protect the tatami and combat drafts and that seems to work.

This year I've not had any condensation at all yet. I've been leaving the shower fan on for several hours after I shower/bathe and I wonder if that might be making the difference.

One of my friends in Japan had a dehumidifier. She loved it! That might be an option.

That would definitely be useful in the summer, but right now it seems the electric heater kind of dries most of the air out already to the point where my throat gets a little dry. Still, it might be worth looking into.

Yeah, I am pretty bad at gaman, so I run the aircon/heater when I'm at home. I hate that I can be warm under a kotatsu but my nose will still be freezing. -_- I figure the cost evens out during the spring and fall, when I barely use it.
