Everyone OK?

I sincerely hope all of you, your friends, families, and towns are ok after the earthquake and aftermath. A few of my friends near Tokyo said they had to walk miles and miles to get home, but were otherwise basically ok. I hear the footage from the news is horrible (I haven't had the chance to watch any myself). Any reports?

Here are a couple of ( Read more... )

I've heard from quite a few JETs on the coast of Fukushima... So far everyone is good. A few are in shelters, but that's the worst I've heard so far...

One of my university Japanese professors is from Sendai--I did a homestay with her mother and got to meet her brothers and niece. I e-mailed my prof but haven't heard back yet.

In JET-specific news, JETs in Japan are being asked to contact their embassies/consulates to let them know that they're okay. So far 60 of the 71 JETs in Miyagi-ken have checked in (the others are in remote areas). CLAIR and MOFA are trying to reach out to JETs and JET alumni in Japan as well.

Hi,

I've lurked on here for a couple of years (finally gotten round to applying this year). I hope everyone is safe.

This is the number for Brits in Japan to contact the FCO to let them know they are ok: Grateful if British nationals could confirm if they are safe by contacting FCO: +22 (0)2070080000 and japan.earthquake@fco.gov.uk

For those in the UK, the British Red Cross doesn't seem to have a donation fund set up at present, but hopefully that will change in the next few hours.

Thinking of everyone out there.

The Japanese Red Cross is now accepting donations through the British Red Cross - http://www.redcross.org.uk/japantsunami/

A friend of mine works for the U.S. State Department. He says, "If you know of a missing US citizen in Japan send an email to: JapanEmergencyUSC@state.gov with as much contact info you have for the person."

I asked if he knows of any way to search for Japanese friends you're worried about other than the Google people finder. I'll let you know if he has any more info.

Thanks to others who've posted info for the U.K. as well.

Also, if you know any JETs who were in the affected area, here's a list from CLAIR of American and Canadian JETs who have been confirmed safe: http://www.jlgc.org/TopicList.aspx?topicCategoryID=20&topicID=156&languageTypeID=1&controlType=Display
