An actual entry. I've actually done things outside my typical activities and has something to post about.
I have been in Vancouver for the past couple of days, visiting my parents. It turned out that my usual 7 days were at the same time as Mother's Day and my mom's birthday, so I planned a flight and here I am. It's been a good trip.
I flew out on Saturday morning. It was a fairly early flight, so I decided I take a cab instead of asking a friend to crawl out of bed before 5am. The cab found my place with no problem (unusual, let me tell you), there was no traffic and I got to the airport at the time I actually hoped for. There was a huge line at the Air Canada counter when I got in so I decided to ask someone if it was the right line just in case. There used to be an special counter for Edmonton-Calgary-Vancouver flights but I couldn't see it. The guy told me to use one of the express lane machines, which I hadn't ever used as I thought you had to have the credit card used to book the flight. As my dad books my flights (miracle of airmiles), I didn't think I could use them. Turns out I was wrong, I could use one of my cards and it would match the name. I was through check-in in less than 5 mins. Security was really quick too.
I knew I was doomed when I saw the pink Zip plane though. They have painted all the Zip planes funky colours and I hate the pink one just on principle. We all board the plane in a timely fashion, but as we are getting on, we hear an alarm. There was a couple of jokes about phalanges (apparently everyone has seen Friends), but no one seemed worried. After a bit, the captain comes on to let us know that they are looking for some "maintenance paperwork" and he will let us know. After about 5 minutes, he comes back just to let us know they are still looking but we might be delayed. After another 10 or so, he tells us we are grounded and that an agent will be waiting for us when we disembarked. Oh great.
Everyone was really calm though. We just sat back down in the boarding gate and waited. Shortly, it was announced that they were going to put us on another flight in 2 hours. For me, that was great, but some of the people had connections to make. But still everyone was calm and relaxed and there didn't seem to be any problems. I know one couple stayed behind though, as there was no way for them to make a connection and they would be better off to try again tomorrow.
The new plane was blue and white. Much better. The flight went well. When I got in, my parents and I went for a walk around Rice Lake near their house. Absolutely beautiful. It's so green out here!
Saturday night, we had my dad's family and my three best friends from high school over for a barbeque. My dad's hamburgers are very yummy. It was a lot of fun, even though I got picked on! It was like they were trying to fit a year's worth of teasing into one night. It was funny though, even if it was about me *g*.
Sunday, I went shopping with my sister. We both bought a new shirt and saw Van Helsing. Decent movie, particularly since it was matinee price. That night we had both my grandmothers over dinner as it was Mother's Day. I gave my mom a nightgown that I had made and some little gold ball earrings.
Monday, my mom took me to her exercise class that her mom also takes. She got to enter in a draw for a free pass as it was "bring a friend day". It was a good class. It's meant for 50+ (I was the youngest by 30 years...) so it's designed to go at your own pace and the instructor gave options for the exercises. I followed the "hard" exercises and it was a nice mild workout for me. It was a really good mix, some stretching, mild cardio, free weights and a bit of yoga for a cooldown. It was nice to feel like I was one of the most athletic people there! *L* When we got home, we ran a few errands and then went for an hour long walk/easy hike along the baden powell trail as it's near my parents' house as well. That night I went out for dinner with my cousin to my favourite sushi place. Had to stock up before going back to Edmonton, as very very few of my friends out there like Japanese.
My sister and I baked a cake last night for my mom's birthday dinner tonight. I decorated it this morning. It is two rounds place together and decorated to look like a teapot. I then met up with one of my high school friends for a walk and a coffee. I had seen her the night of the barbeque, but we got to catch up a bit more today. We sat in the sun while drinking coffee and I got my first sunburn of the year on my left side of my neck.
I'm just waiting for my dad to get home from work to put the garlic bread in the stove. Lasagna is almost ready, the table is set with the good china. I love birthdays, even when they are not mine.
