JOHN CHARLES GONZALES-STANLEY
February 12, 1964 -January 18, 2006
On January 18, 2006, Chuck, 41, died peacefully with his beloved Mother and Father by his side at their home in Herndon, Virginia. He is preceded in his death by his maternal grandparents, Mary and John Gonzales; and his paternal grandparents, Elsie and James Stanley. He is survived by his parents, Diane and David Stanley, Herndon, VA; two brothers, David, of Johnstown, PA, and Todd, of Herndon, VA; three nieces Amanda, Emily, and Mary; and one nephew, Austin. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive him. Chuck was raised in Herndon. He graduated from Herndon High School Class of 1982 and attended Shenandoah Conservatory. He lived in the Northern Virginia area his entire life. Chuck was an actor and costume designer at the Lazy Susan Dinner Theatre in Woodbridge, VA, for the last nineteen years beginning with Fiddler on the Roof in 1987. For eight of those years, he performed with his dearest life-long friend, Steven Watkins, of New York, NY, doing such shows as The Sound of Music, Agatha Christie's The Unexpected Guest, The Pirates of Penzance and Dames at Sea. His other roles at the Theatre included technical operator, server, bartender, and box office assistant; however, he was never happier than when he was performing. Other favorite shows of Chuck's include: Guys and Dolls, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Damn Yankees, Shenandoah, and State Fair. Chuck's proudest moments as a designer were the National Day of Reconciliation (for comedian Travalena) where he recreated the Vietnam Soldiers and Nurses Memorials, the New York Spellbound Theatreworks production of HAIR, and a costume for the 13th Annual Broadway Bares (AE/BFA) production. Away from his theatre life, Chuck worked as a leasing agent at several apartment and senior living complexes in the Northern Virginia area where he also made many friends. He spent his quiet time writing original plays, listening to music, watching movies, and writing in his journals. Chuck will be greatly missed by his family, his Theatre family, and his many, many friends. His Memorial Service will be held at MOUNTCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 4143 Dale Boulevard, Dale City, VA, on Monday, January 23, 2006 at 1 p.m., with interment at Woodbine Baptist Church Cemetery. A Celebration of Chuck's Life will immediately follow at the Lazy Susan Dinner Theatre. Donations may also be made in Chuck's name to Hospice of Northern Virginia, 9300 Lee Highway, Fairfax, VA 22031.
