Men can be so frustrating at times. I honestly have to wonder how those of you from races with equal numbers of both sexes even get along with each other long enough to get anything done. Not particularly because I hate men - that's a false Gerudo stereotype, thank you very much. But just because we're so different.

Men are... odd sometimes, I'll give you that.

What kind of novels are you reading?

Odd is a nice way of putting it, maybe.

Er, well... this one is called "Love's Secret Sniper". It's got a meaty-looking man on the cover.

... Some are pigs, some are soft in the head, still more are brilliant at hiding their bastardry to use you, and I am going to hope the rest are decent human beings, though I can't understand them?

"Odd" is nicer, yes.

... Ah. That sounds like a... romance novel. Those are... [Cough.] a stilted reality.

Though I'm sure some women... I don't know.

A stilted reality. [That makes her laugh.] So these are known for being bad, then? That's a relief, at least.

I wish other women had your spirit.

Oh?

[Pause.]

I'm sure there are ladies where you're from with some backbone.

[...A diva named Carlotta springs to mind. Ugh.]

Perhaps, but a lady with backbone and an agreeable demeanor is much more difficult to find.

When it comes to dealings with men, I wonder if they are compatible at all.

[Kevas thinks that she would fit right in back on Azeroth.]

Well not all of us be so bad.

[Then again most of the men Kevas knows don't paint a pretty picture for his gender.]

Kevas. It's been a while.

You know, I'll backpedal here and say that you're a welcome exception. Such a gentleman, and without turning into a weenie.

And a flatterer, too.

You ought to visit the Valley sometime, Kevas. I have a feeling you'd like it there.

I think sometimes that goes both ways? Girls can be really confusing too sometimes...

Ah, but of course. How do girls confuse you, Link?

Well... they'll say one thing, but it's not what they actually mean. And when I don't realize that, they act like I was supposed to know what they were really saying!

[Chuckle.] It's true, men and women have their own special brands of tact and implication, eh? Two things that unfortunately come up a lot in romantic dealings.

I think it helps that there were plenty of women warriors in the past on my world ... or at least in my culture. Two of the five great knights were women, and one of them is regarded as the best swordmaster to ever live.

But ... I guess it really depends on what men and women are supposed to do ... you know? The valkyries on my world, for instance, have women who out-number the men 10 to 1. The men live pampered spoiled lives and are owned by flocks of females. They can't do anything dangerous because they're too valuable. The women are the leaders and the warriors and the builders ... everything.

But ... their women lay eggs. They don't have to take care of children ...

[She pauses, realizing she's rambling.]

I think some women like being thought of as weak. Like it gets them out of doing stuff. And some men like to feel strong and useful ...

Mmm, I think the Gerudo would have a lot to talk about with those valkyries. [Grins.]

That is probably true - some women wanting to be weak so they don't have to do anything. But it's hard for me to respect a woman like that. It hits me as some twisted desire to stay an indentured child forever, just with a husband instead of with your parents.

Yeah ... I guess ... But it's really nice when the one you love takes care of you, no matter what gender you are. It's only bad when someone else is forcing you to do something you don't want ... right?

[She was wondering if she was breaking some female code with Gideon or something.]

Well, of course. But love and support should be something reciprocal. Even our young daughters help with what we do daily to support ourselves in the desert.
