"Where have all the good men gone?"

My new obsession is Legend of the Seeker, a TV serie loosely based the Terry Goodkind series Sword of Truth, which I have not read yet.  The show was produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, th creators/producers of Hercules/Xena, which I also love, although that's funny because I didn't know that at the time I started watching Seeker.   I can't say ( Read more... )

I dunno what channel it'd be on for you, but I was stunned to find out how good the (new to me) Teen Wolf series is. I gorged out watching all the episodes that are available in the span of about a week or so and am now eagerly waiting for the new season to start.

The characters in that are not all good like the series you talk about. I think they're pretty true to what people would face in real life if they had the events happening to them. They're often confused about what they are/should be doing. They make mistakes and screw up and have to learn to deal with the consequences of their actions. One of the big bads was really bad and one that you thought was bad actually wasn't. There's a good deal of ambiguity in this series and I like it for that because that's how people are whether they mean to be or not.

I have heard good things about the recent Teen Wolf show. While on the onset I was/am skeptical, I plan on giving it a try. Although none come to mind presently, I know that in the past hokey ideas in the right hands have become really great stories, or at least i believe they can, so I am willing to give it a look. It is on my list.

You really should read Terry Goodkind's books. They're wonderful and loooong... :)

That's why I no longer watch TV as a rule. Every time I find something I like -- it gets cancelled before I'm ready for it to end. Now, if I see something that looks like I might like it: I wait. Mostly to see how far the run goes until it ends and then I will watch it on the internet. Castle is an exception. It was recommended to me when it was in its fifth season so I started watching it.

Funny, I am currently reading the Omen Machine, the latest book in the Series. I think the series is very good (although uneven at times). I watched the show and didn't care for it, perhaps because it felt like such a departure from the books. You should read the first Book Wizards First Rule and give it a try. That book and the 5 after are very clever and exiting to read, Later books sometimes feel long in the tooth. The Omen Machine for instance has had some dull points.

Thanks for bringing this up. Somehow after reading the first six...or was it seven? books I seemed to have lost track and never went back. It probably happened when I was waiting for the next novel to be written. Wow, it's amazing how many more books are in this series. *boggles*

You're right about it being uneven in parts but I believe it's almost inevitable in books as long as his are. And he still writes better overall than a LOT of writers out there. For me, good writing and great character development are essential to keep me reading :)

i'm sorry you didn't care for the show. i loved it. i am grief stricken there will be no more. But I am heartened that the characters i know and love are alive and well in the books (well, maybe not always well ... and maybe not always alive...) and I am looking forward to joining them on their many adventures. I am a bit nervous to see how different the books are - i know the plots are different, i am just hoping the characters are the same, personality wise. And although i know the characters are described differently in the books, i can bring the images of the actors with me as small comfort.
