Summary: Massu tries to confess to Tegoshi.
Notes: English isn’t my native language, so there might be some mistakes. Try to ignore them!
Shige stares at Massu, who is staring at Tegoshi. Tegoshi is sitting in Ryo’s lap and is feeding him strawberries. With every strawberry that goes into Ryo’s mouth Massu looks a bit darker, and after a few more strawberries he’s so gloomy it starts to scare Shige.
It’s no secret that Massu likes Tegoshi. You could maybe even say he loves Tegoshi. Everybody knows that besides Tegoshi and Massu themselves. Tegoshi hasn’t got a clue of anything, and Massu hasn’t yet accepted the fact that he’s in love with his friend. But the kind person he is, Shige has decided to help Massu with his little problem.

“You like Tegoshi,” Shige states when he’s alone with Massu.
“Of course I like him! Don’t you?” Massu asks while eating a donut.
“I meant you love him, right? More than as a friend.”
“Wha-- No! What makes you say that?” Massu nearly chokes on his donut.
“Oh C’mon! You’re always staring at him with that loving look and goofy smile on your face! And whatever Tegoshi says or does you’re on his side no matter how wrong and stupid it is!”
“Well, I’m his friend, so it’s basically my duty to defend and protect him.”
“Might be so, but how about when Tegoshi sits in your lap or holds hands with you. Can you honestly say you’re not happy when he does that?” Shige asks.
“Of course I’m happy, that means he must like me, as a friend!”
“Okay now, let’s try this. Imagine Tegoshi’s face. His perfect smile, lips, mysterious eyes, cute nose, smooth skin.. Forget the fact that he’s a boy, that doesn’t matter. Love is blind, remember? Imagine Tegoshi smiling at you and closing his eyes like he was going to kiss you. Would you kiss him back?” Shige asks. “Because if you like him just as a friend, you wouldn’t do that..” he adds casually.
Massu is quiet for a long time before he suddenly turns pale and drops his half-finished donut. “Oh my god Shige, I’m in love with my best friend!”

Shige is about to open the door of the News’ dressing room, when he hears Tegoshi’s voice.
“Ne, Ryotan, wanna have more strawberries? Say ‘Aaaa’!”
Shige opens the door and steps in. Tegoshi is sitting on Ryo’s lap again and Ryo hands are locked behind Tegoshi’s back. “Tegoshi, I have something to tell you.”
“Oh, Shige! What is it?” Tegoshi turns his head to face Shige and smiles.
“It’s kind of private..” Shige hints and eyes at Ryo.
“Oh.. Well, if this is about me, then Ryotan can stay too. I have no secrets.” Tegoshi looks at Ryo nodding and Ryo smiles at him.
“If that’s what you want..” Shige says and sits down next to Tegoshi and Ryo.
“So.. Have noticed the way Massu has eyed you lately?” Shige whispers to Tegoshi.
“No? Is he mad at me or something?” Tegoshi asks, suddenly all seriousness.
“No.. It’s think it’s the quite opposite.. I think he’s in love with you.” Shige says.
Ryo bursts into laughter. “Are you kidding me? Like that pig could have feelings for anything else than food?” He says but pulls Tegoshi a bit closer.
“Oh Ryo, don’t be mean to Massu!” Tegoshi scolds him. “But Shige, where the heck did you get that idea from?”
“I’ve been following Massu’s moves lately, and what I’ve found out is that he’s always staring at you, and tries to be as close to you as possible.. And he can be very proctetive when it comes to you.. By any chance Tesshi, do you have feelings for Massu too?” Shige asks, trying to sound as innocent as he can.
“Shige.. Are you.. Are you trying to say I’m gay?” Tegoshi’s eyes start to wet and his lower lip is trembling.
“Um, no..? I’m trying to ask you if you like Massu?”
“In other words, you think I’m gay! How.. How can you say that Shige? Is it my hair? Or my clothes? Oh my god!” Tegoshi is now wailing and hugging Ryo who looks at Shige with the oh-look-what-you’ve-done look that makes Shige feel he has just kicked a puppy.
“Uh.. Never mind. Forget I said anything..” Shige says, gets up and leaves the room. Luckily Ryo is gentle when Tegoshi’s around, otherwise Shige would be dead meat already. You see, Massu isn’t the only one who’s a bit protective when it comes to Tegoshi.

“You have to do something you know! He’s not going to realize you love him unless you do something about it!” Shige tells Massu who’s distracting himself by eating chicken wings someone had left on the table.
“You should taste these too! They’re really great!” Massu ignores Shige compleately.
“MASSU!” Shige slaps Massu on the back of his head.
“But I can’t! He’d hate me if he knew!” Massu complained and took another chicken wing.
“How do you know that? What if he secretly loves you too but is too shy to confess?”
“Tegoshi? Shy? Are you nuts?” Massu tries to laugh but the voice he makes doesn’t actually sound like laughter, more like a cry, Shige thinks.
“How about writing him a love letter?” he asks then.
“Good idea, but did you forget I suck at everything besides sports, smiling and eating?” Massu points out.
“You have a terrible attitude, Massu. Take a grip of yourself and get on with it.” Shige says, puts a paper and a pencil on the table in front of Massu and leaves the room.
Massu stares at the paper in front of him. He takes the pencil and starts to write.
First try
Massu sneaks to the News’ dressing room in the middle of their practise. He had succesfully tricked the others by telling them he has to go to the bathroom. Massu seeks Tegoshi’s bag, and when he finally finds it, he carefully slips the letter to the bag and sneaks out of the room.
When their practise is over, the band walks to the dressing room chatting happily and talking about their plans for the free weekend. Suddenly Massu pulls Tegoshi aside.
“You’ll find a little surprise from your bag, please don’t read it before you’re home.” He quickly whispers and runs to the dressing room with the others leaving the stunned Tegoshi in the hallway wondering what his friend had meant.

Ryo and Yamapi are the first ones to leave, and right after them Tegoshi, leaving Massu, Shige and Koyama alone.
“So, did you put it in his bag?” Shige asks Massu when Koyama is collecting his stuff from the floor.
“Yep! Actually, I think it’s better this way. That he knows how I feel.” Massu says smiling.
“Hey.. What’s this?” Koyama says slowly pulling a letter out of his bag. Shige quickly turns to look at Massu whose smile is slowly replaced with horrified look.
“By any chance.. A love letter?” He asks and starts to rip the envelope open. “It is! Oh my god Shige, I got a love letter! Jaa, let’s see..” He pulls the paper out and starts to read aloud.
“To my dearest. I’ve liked you for a little while now. Actually, I’m not sure how long, because I myself wasn’t aware of this until just a little while ago. But I wanted you to know that you’re one of the most important persons in my life, and I really hope that the fact that I like you more than as a friend will not ruin our wonderful friendship if you don’t feel the same way I do.”
“How.. How is this possible?” Massu asks stunned. “Isn’t that Tegoshi’s bag?”
“Well, I liked Tegoshi’s bag, it’s so cute, and Tegoshi liked my bag, so we switched!” Koyama says waving Tegoshi’s old bag to Massu and Shige.
“Are you serious?” Massu asks.
“Yeah! But I really wonder who this letter is from.. Maybe a fangirl has slipped to this building to give me this letter!” Koyama wonders. “But it’s kind of corny.. Full of spelling mistakes and all.. To be honest, I wouldn’t even look at the person who wrote this!” Koyama says laughting.
“That’s it, I’m leaving.” Massu says and storms out of the room.
“What’s with him today?” Koyama asks pointing at the door Massu had slammed shut.
“Dunno.” Shige says, shaking his head.

The next morning Massu is stopped by Tegoshi in the hallway.
“Massu, what’s with that surprise-thing? I didn’t find anything unusual from my bag yesterday!”
“That’s because you swithched bags with Koyama, you silly.” Massu mutters.
“What?”
“Nothing. Forget it, it was just a joke. Funny, right? HAHAHAHA!” Massu laughs. “Gotta go!” He suddenly says and runs away.
“Wha-- Massu! Wait!” Tegoshi shouts but Massu was already gone.
Second try
Massu walks back and forth in Shige’s room shaking his head. “I can’t do it again, Shige!”
“Oh, Massu! You have to try again, with a different techique this time..” Shige says.
“I suppose you have plan already?” Massu stops and looks at Shige.
“Oh yes..” Shige grins.

“Are you sure this will work?” Massu asks eyeing Shige whose lap he is sitting on.
“Trust me, it will!” Shige nods. “But I really hope he’ll come soon, you’re increadibly heavy, you know.”
“Whatever..”
“Yo Massu!” Tegoshi steps into the room but immediately stops when he sees Massu sitting on Shige’s lap hand behind his head.
“And Shige too..” He continues. “And.. What exactly are you doing?”
“What do you mean?” Massu asks innocently. “This is how we always are!”
“Yeah!” Shige smiles and pulls Massu closer.
“Okay..” Tegoshi nods slowly. “So Massu did you have something to tell me?”
“Yeah.. I’m afraid I can’t go to karaoke with you this week.. See, Shige and I have plans already.” Massu tells Tegoshi trying to look as casual as he could.
“Oh..” Tegoshi looks sad for a few seconds but then his face lightens up. “I’ll just ask Koyama or Ryo-chan then! No big deal, you two just have fun!” He smiles and goes to the hallway, probably to look for Koyama.
“This is hopeless.” Massu sighs and gets up. “He was supposed to get really jealous, not to think that we are going out!”
“Well.. I admit that it didn’t go exactly as I planned..” Shige says. “But I’ve already got a new and a better plan in my mind!”
Third try
It’s dark outside and Massu is standing under Tegoshi’s window a small rock in his hand. He’s supposed to wake Tegoshi up by throwing rocks to his window, just like in movies, and tell him to come down for a moment. And then he’ll confess to him!
Massu throws one rock and waits if Tegoshi had woken up.
Nothing.
He throws another one. Still nothing.
Massu picks up a hand-full of small rocks and throws them up to Tegoshi’s window, but nothing happens.
He continues the throwing for 15 more minutes, but when nothing happens at all, he picks up a bigger rock and throws it up. He may have used a bit too much strenght, because the next thing he hears is a sound of glass breaking, and the splinters falling to the street. Then Massu sees a light flick on in Tegoshi’s parents room, and that’s where he runs away.

“Massu! You’ll never guess what happened to me this morning!” Tegoshi runs to Massu when he arrives at work.
“What?” Massu says avoiding eye-contact.
“I was staying over at Koyama’s place yesterday, and this morning when I got home my mom came running and told me that someone had broken my window last night!” Tegoshi tells Massu clearly still shocked from what has happened.
“The fangirls are crazy these days, it seems that they had been throwing rocks at my window for quite a long time before managing to actually break it!”
“Yeah.. That’s terrible..” Massu says looking down. “Sorry, I have to go.” He says and runs away before Tegoshi can stop him.
“Massu wait! I need tell--“” Tegoshi shouts but Massu is gone again. “Never mind I guess..”

“I give up. Ryo can have him.” Massu sighs.
“No! Don’t give up! You’ve come this far, you just can’t quit now!” Shige grabs Massu’s shoulders and shakes him hard. “One more try, Massu! This time you’ll succeed for sure!”
“Okay. But this the last one.” Massu gives in.
Fourth try
Massu was going to confess face to face. He had carefully memorized what he was going to say to Tegoshi so that he wouldn’t make any mistakes. He thought the perfect time was when they were having a break from the daily dance practise. There were some juniors around, but Massu thought they wouldn’t pay attention to him.
Massu steps behind Tegoshi who is happily chatting with the members of Kisumai.
“Tegoshi.” Massu says.
Tegoshi turns around. “Oh, Massu! What is it?” He smiles and looks Massu straight in the eyes.
“I.. Umm..” Suddenly Massu forgot all the things he had memorized. “You see.. I’ve been wanting to tell you that.. Umm..”
“Yes?” Tegoshi looks a bit confused.
Screw it. I’ll just kiss him, that’ll make him realise everything.
Massu closes his eyes and leans in to kiss Tegoshi. He presses his lips against the other one’s. He just stays there, until Tegoshi pulls away and Massu opens his eyes. Only to be greeted by Fujigaya Taisuke’s embrassed and shocked face.
There’s a small silence before Massu speaks.
“You’re not Tegoshi.” he stays stunned.
“N-no I’m not.” Fujigaya says and Massu can see his face turning red.
“Where is he then?”
“Umm.. He kinda ran to Koyama just when you had closed your eyes..” Fujigaya looks down to his feet.
“Oh..” Massu sighs. “I’m sorry I kissed you then.” He says before walking to the closest bathroom and locking himself there for the rest of their practise.

Shige could only laugh when Massu told him what had happened.
“I’m starting to think that you’re not meant to be, you know.” He says laughing.
“Me too.” Massu says picking a riceball from Shige’s lunch box. “I give up already, I can’t take this anymore.”
“Only if you’re okay with that.” Shige says also picks up one rice ball and stuffing the entire lump in his mouth.
Omake
“Massu. I love you.” Tegoshi says to Massu when they are walking home from karaoke. “I’ve loved for a long time, but I wasn’t sure if you felt the same so I didn’t have the courage to confess until now.. Everytime I tried it seemed that you had something else going on, you were sitting on Shige’s lap or you ran away just when I was about to confess..”
Massu froze. “Are you kidding me?” He asked finally.
“No. No one knows this, I thought they’d never talk to me again if they knew that I.. Well, Am in love with a boy. But I hope even if you don’t feel the same way we could still be frien--“
Tegoshi was silenced by Massu’s lips pressed against his, and all he could do was smile and kiss back.
