I just spent about an hour typing a post about my new experiments with my dear Gimp, resulting in more amateurish icons--but still better than the last ones. And LJ proceeded to slurp it up and consign it to the dark depths of cyberspace. How does anyone use this darn software?

Aw, that's really a shame. Reading a beginners learning experience might have been just what I needed. Anyway, they're not bad!

Are you trying to learn graphics programs too? I wish there were a community for total noobies to share/support one another without bothering people who know better. I feel very much behind because I didn't master this software at the age of thirteen.

Oh yes, I pray for young Snape flashbacks in Deathly Hallows. I made one saying "Prince of Goth", too...

Yeah, at least twice in my life I decided to just follow an icon tutorial, but they would start with "First create this square in the colour 0019888. Then ..." and all I could think was "Wait, I open Photoshop, and then?" There is also the problem that my Photoshop speaks German, so these tutorials are of limited use for me anyway. The biggest problem is my unwillingness to read a manual. In the end I just fool around and wish somebody would explain.:p
