Glee: Season 1, Volume 1 review

Dec 18, 2009 16:39

Alright. So, I took my time to fiddle around with the special features and navigation on the Glee: Season 1, Volume 1 DVD and I'm going to do a quick review here!

Again, I was able to acquire a copy of the DVD via a retailer (more specifically FYE). I assume someone didn't know that this wasn't meant for release yet and accidentally put it out.

Special Features Include:
-Audition Pieces: Rachel (Lea Michele) sings "On My Own" and Mercedes (Amber Riley) sings "Respect"
-"Welcome to McKinley" - a introduction to the school via Principal Figgins, designed for 8th graders entering the high school
-Casting Sessions
-"Deconstructing Glee with Ryan Murphy" documentary
-"Dance Boot Camp"
-Jane Lynch A to Glee
-Meet Jane Lynch
-"Things You Didn't Know" series for Jayma Mays, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, and Chris Colfer
-Video Diaries for Jane Lynch, Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Cory Monteith, Kevin McHale, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, and Dianna Agron

All of the episodes are there, including the Director's Cut "Pilot". Each episode has it's own introductory screen with a synopsis. As far as the episodes go, there isn't any additional footage with them.

Each disc has a different musical backtrack on the title screens and the main title screens have tiles that flip and change places on the screen with the characters' faces on them.

The special features are pretty neat. There are full versions of Lea's and Amber's audition pieces for the glee club. The "Welcome to McKinley" video, hosted by Principal Figgins, is really funny. He is funny in the show, but this introduction video really lets him shine.

The casting sessions only follow Lea, Cory, and Colfer. You get to see just little pieces of Amber, Jenna, and Kevin, nothing too detailed and you don't get to hear them sing really. I would have loved to have seen more of the cast and their audition processes, but this is a brand new show, so they're probably holding more footage for later releases.

I would have loved to have had a Gag/Blooper Reel, but I don't make the DVD sets! Another downside? No deleted scenes. The special features are lacking here. We've seen a majority of them before.

I took some pictures and took a couple screenshots for those of you who might be interested in the look of everything. These can be clicked on and be made larger!
