It's another typical night at Xavier's.
Nori and David are still at a standstill. Neither ready to admit the depth of their feelings for one another and so they sit on different pieces of furniture pretending to watch Nick and Paras play their video game. Megan, Santo, Alani and Victor are near the boathouse drinking the stash of Logan's beer that they somehow pilfered without the hairy man's knowledge. Cessily is near the tunnels that lead towards the Morlocks, leaving another bag of food for a hidden friend. The Cuckoos are locked away in Cerebra, looking for who knows what while Blindfold sits in her room, knowing all that is about to pass. Sally and Julian lay entwined in bed, neither quite able to fall asleep.
Joshua Foley sits in his room and broods.
He's perfected his brooding; skin changing from his vibrant gold to the dark black and grays. He can feel his insides shifting as well, changing from his healing nature to one that can easily kill. Books on anatomy are scattered around him on the floor. His bed hasn't been used in days. He's been focused on reading, on gaining all the knowledge he can so that he can get a better handle on his powers.
Only a few months ago Laura had yelled at him for not practicing enough. He'd blown it off, knowing the younger girl was irritated that Julian had been stung by a jellyfish. So he hadn't been able to change back from his blackened form to heal Julian. It was no biggie. The guy had healed on his own.
But then Sally had been stabbed and now all Josh can think is what if he had been blackened then? What if he hadn't been able to switch back? Would she be dead? Another body to add to the ever-growing graveyard out back. It scares him to think how easily that could have happened.
So he sits in the dark and focuses on switching back and forth, letting his emotions push the change forward. He doesn't want to rely solely on them though. Emotions can easily betray a person and he wants to be able to do this without trouble. No one knows the limits to his powers and Josh means to make sure there will be none.
No one else is allowed to die. He'll make sure of it.
