I really miss the days when TV news meant Ted Koppel, Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, and Tom Brokaw instead of Bill O'Reilly, John Stossel, Katie Couric, Wolf Blitzer, and [whoever is on Nightline at this point].  Brian Williams still gets a bit of my respect, but only a little.  

So I finally get the bike out and ride to work, and sit down at my desk to discover that it's apparently "National Dump The Pump" day, sponsored by the KC ATA, encouraging people to take public transportation instead of driving.  The irony is that nearly every other work day this year I've taken the bus.

Well, it's only about 2 months later than I'd hoped, but I finally got /dev/bike cleaned up and ready to be ridden to work tomorrow.  I finally made it to the bike shop and got a trunk bag to use to put clothes and toiletries in, rather than trying to strap an old laptop bag onto my bike rack.  The laptop will still have to ride in my backpack, ( Read more... )

PostCrossing seems like a pretty cool idea.

Created this for breakfast Saturday morning, from modifying a couple of recipes in The Joy of Cooking.  It was too sweet for a frequent breakfast, but damn, was it yummy. 

RedBox  has relatively recently invaded the Kansas City area; the idea, at first blush, seems like a decent one: cheap, automated DVD rentals on an ATM-like model.  However, this evening when we tried to use the free rental that we got when we drove through McDiner to pick up something to drink earlier in the day, I discovered the primary problem ( Read more... )

Last Saturday morning, while my mom was in town, she, Ian, and I took the morning to wander around town participating in the Urban Photo Safari.  It's a locally-planned digital photography event -- I'd call it a contest, but that makes it sound more competitive than it really is.  The pictures were posted this afternoon for voting - check them out ( Read more... )
