Apparently, when I'm not working, my favorite hobby is buying electronics ;-)  I just got a laptop and a bluetooth headset (well, as a present, but I had *intended* to buy it on my own) and am planning to look at digital voice recorders before I start school ( Read more... )

Do you remember what kind it was? Was it a Canon PowerShot SD1000?

So I work at a camera store, and would be more than happy to help you find something that would fit what you want :]

Ooh, yes, please! Ideally, I want something small & light weight that is fairly easy to deal with when it comes to transferring pictures, etc. I'm told that even though there's a screen on the back, I should get a viewfinder ... Really, taking pictures isn't my focus, so point-and-shoot is all I need. I'd also like to keep costs down.

Two different people have suggested Canon PowerShot SD1000. I haven't had any other suggestions yet... What're your thought?

I'm sorry about your TV, btw :-( That sucks.

Posting from work, so I'm too lazy to login.

The SD1000 is nice.... 7.1 megapixels, 3x optimal zoom, has the viewfinder you're looking for, also some cool features like taking black and white photos with just the color red showing up etc. Has special settings for landscape, portrait, macro etc. It doesn't have image stabilization which you would find on the 850IS or some other canon cameras, but they cost more.

The other camera I really like is the Fujifilm FinePix f40fd. It runs around the same amount of money, a little less, but is lacking the viewfinder. I enjoy playing with this one in the store-- some people who reviewed it said the pictures weren't as sharp, but I've been taking some cool ones. Look at the main image on myspace.com/mkerwin

A good place to look at is http://www.dpreview.com/ and you can compare multiple cameras and read reviews from pros and other consumers. <3
