I miss MIT

Aug 24, 2007 21:21

I learned this today, when trying to troubleshoot why I can no longer send emails from my MIT account in Outlook:

"Inconveniently, our campus completely blocks sending mail other than through Stanford (or a web-based service)."

I guess I'm SOL....  I wanna go back to MIT :-(

Wow, that sums up my initial grad school experience at Stanford, too. :-)

It gets better. Stanford is different in many ways, but the grad students are nice people (not the undergrads -- ignore them) and the campus is sort of stunning. I bet Tressider still has a Jamba Juice, and you can't argue with the bookstore. Hang in!

It does still have a Jamba Juice :-) There is a silver lining...

Well that policy sucks. But I think you're far from SOL. I'm sure there is a way to sneak your email through - I bet there are several people you know still at MIT who could set something up for you.

Have you tried setting up your MIT account to send through Stanford's SMTP? This usually works on networks that 'block' sending through a different SMTP.

Wow, that sucks. Yeah, I think you'll find, though that MIT is pretty unique, and generally the exception rather than the rule as far as how universities are run. I chuckled to myself about that when I read you're attempt to get into the SLS building after hours. Unlike MIT, most campuses lock up their buildings at night. ;) Hopefully your classes starting have helped dilute your MIT/homesickness some. I'm sure it will get better! :)
