I couldn't agree more! Very well thought out and articulated.

Though, one thing I must say- much as the rich tend to vilify the poor as being lazy and sucking up resources, many poor/middle class people vilify the rich as being greedy, self-interested and cold-hearted. I think the truth of the matter is that there are good and bad people amongst both of these groups. There are some rich people who honestly have worked very hard to get where they are, or were born into money by no fault of their own- some of them are very generous and philanthropic. Unfortunately, money also = power, so the bad rich people can do a whole lot more harm to society than that bad poor people. I think because of this, there needs to be more oversight in place to keep the rich from being greedy and power hungry. But don't forget that not *everyone* who is rich is evil and greedy, even if many of them are. Just sayin...

Thank you...I'm always pleased to see commentary from people in the US who haven't drunk the Ayn Rand Kool-Aid. It disturbs me to see so many people vote against their own best interests. But ultimately, allowing the wealthy elite total control over the political and judicial system (in addition to the media), isn't in *their* best interest either. To create wealth, you need markets. When millions of people are out of work, in debt, and fearful for the future, they ain't buying. Furthermore, the more imbalanced and unfair the distribution of money becomes, the more restive the population becomes. Instead of spending money on schools and roads, it gets spent on jails and tear gas ( ... )
