Protesters?

I work in downtown Minneapolis, but my office used to be in downtown St. Paul (we moved last January). I've seen various bits of footage of what could have been demonstrators, rioters, or police brutality. It's really hard to tell when you get only a few seconds of whatever those who have an agenda want you to see. Part of me wishes I still worked ( Read more... )

Sometimes it seems that even when they don't have bad intentions police in difficult crowd situation can behave, at the very least, unfairly. A few years back Ohio State had problems with students "rioting". At the time my Kimber was managing a store near campus, and some of her employees were students who lived in the areas where the rioting took place. They told stories of just trying to get home, it being late at night and not very safe out with the rioters, and the police telling them they couldn't go into the area, or they'd be arrested. When they tried to explain that they just wanted to get home the cops told them if they didn't quit "arguing" with him he was putting them under arrest anyway. Um... okay. Another said an officer approached him and told him he had to dump his drink out. He told the officer it was just Sprite, he could check, and the officer told him if he didn't dump it he was handcuffing him and putting him in the back of his car ( ... )

I work right next to Galtier and haven't had any problems. I walked through Mears Park last night to my car and saw the protesters ready to start the march; everyone was fine there, although one poor fellow wound up on the ground having a seizure. The 20+ riot gear-attired people surrounding my car was a bit odd though.
