Sherlock Holmes Recs

So. More fandom recs? Why not!

Firstly, with respect to last night's "Sherlock: The Hounds of Baskerville" It had a very different tone from the series opener, but I loved it. I'm not a huge fan of the horror regime, but this story managed to balance the horror with the reality so beautifully that I was jumping back from the screen at moments and at other times nearly closing my eyes in dread of what was to come.

And Russell Tovey was brilliant. I'm a huge fan of his to begin with, but he carried off this role beautifully.

But what made it for me was the moments between John and Sherlock. Oh goodness -- boys!!! Could you be more in love!! Regardless of how many girlfriends and/or wives John has, at the end of the day, it all comes down to Sherlock. And in this episode, the Sherlock side of that relationship came through ever so strongly.

Where to even begin? Sherlock throwing a fit in their flat when he was bored, bored, bored, and John just dealing with it. As per normal.

I loved the scene where John was checking him and Sherlock into the inn. He's given up on correcting people about his and Sherlock's "relationship" status. ::heh::

And Sherlock trying to apologize to John! Classic!! Oh silly, silly boys. But it worked so well.

Last week we had Irene. Yes, Sherlock was intrigued by her. Found her a worthy opponent. Even respected her. But you *never* got the sense he wanted to please her and make her happy. But look at the interaction between Sherlock and John -- particularly in the Hounds episode: there is such a desire on the part of Sherlock to "please" and "make things good again" between him and John that it's utterly amazing.

I don't need the boys to be doing it like fluorescent bunnies. But what I am pleased to see is the genuine affection between the boys. That makes me happy. Very happy.

As for more Sherlock goodness, if you haven't read this series yet, what are you waiting for? Performance in a Leading Role. It's a 20 part AU role summarized as: 'Sherlock Holmes is an Oscar winner in the midst of a career slump. John Watson is an Everyman actor trapped in the rom-com ghetto. When they are cast as a gay couple in a new independent drama, will they surprise each other? Will their on-screen romance make its way into the real world?'

It's absolutely brilliant and every part is satisfying -- and long! Set aside several hours to read the entire series. Truly -- one of my absolute favourite Sherlock fics.

Aside from fics, I still love this music vid by ketchupfights on YouTube. It's just brilliant editing and perfect choice of song for this fandom.

And then we have the "One Week" music vid by mresundance:

And finally, we have one of my favourite Sherlock vids. It's fast paced and nails down the boys to a T. :D.
