It's been a while. A long while since my last post. ::hangs head:: But, I have been reading and commenting when given the opportunity and spending some time on FB while juggling the demands of life and work

I didn't know about my patchwork kitty until I posted and the research began! But it is utterly fascinating. Color sensitive genetics. Who would have thought.
And yes, Finland was great fun! There's something to be said about visiting family. 'Tis never boring!
I am quite fond of that picture of my mum and grandmum -- and so glad I had a chance to take it. It was a wonderful trip and to be surrounded by so much family was both invigorating and exhausting!
But it's lovely the things you learn during trips like this; apparently I've inherited my Great Uncle's laugh and I have a doppleganger on my mother's side -- her second cousin who's a jewelry and stained glass designer :D.
As for Markus' coloring, nobody quite knows what will happen. It is possible that as he sheds his coat, part of it will come in lighter again. But as we're past the main shedding season, it's not going to happen for a while. In the interim -- I've got a very unique kitty!! :D
::grinning:: You know, I didn't even notice the photobombing when I uploaded last night :D. That would be my uncle -- my father's brother-in-law. He's got one of the best last names -- Oraavasaari which means Squirrel Island. Although my last name isn't too bad either: translated, my surname means "Oh! Woodpecker!".
And yes, those silver vixens are looking good :D. It was such an honour to spend Mother's day with them both.
As for Two-Tone, he is now a certifiably Famous Cat; his image will forever be incorporated into lectures about colour sensitivity amongst rare breeds!
Nobody's quite sure what is going to happen with Markus' coloring! The scope of the change was so dramatic and unusual that he's a one-off :D. That's my boy!
As for Finland, it's always a bit strange visiting. Finnish is a very unique language and to be suddenly surrounded by everybody who speaks Finnish just throws me off!! And I'd completely forgotten that Angry Birds was invented by a Finn -- until I arrived at the airport and saw the advertising absolutely everywhere! I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to Helsinki -- it's definitely a city I'd like to visit again -- it's been too long.
I had to stare at the picture of Markus for a full minute before I realized what you meant. I had just assumed the dark area was a shadow from the chair. Mind=blown. Looks like he's wearing pants!
Having gone through the whole experience with Markus, and gradually watched his fur grow back in, it didn't really click with me that there was a variation until my father pointed it out: then it was gob smackingly obvious. Duh! He's certainly one very unique kitty now!!
It's just amazing how genetics and temperature of all things can interact.

How fascinating about Markus's colouring. Will it grow out gradually as it gets warmer?

I'm glad you enjoyed Finland. I visited Helsinki a few years ago for a long weekend (we have a friend who lives in Finland) and had a great time.
