The holidays bring out the worst. In music, that is.

Yes, Thanksgiving is within spitting distance and Christmas is just around the corner. Some places I've been to are already playing Christmas music, and this year, like pretty much any year, I'm dreading hearing certain songs:

I strongly agree w/ you about "The Christmas Shoes." It has got to be the worst Christmas song ever written. The blatant manipulation to make the listener feel guilty that they and everyone they know are healthy this Christmas makes me want to break something.

I'd rather listen to the other three on short rotation for 8 hours than listen to "The Christmas Shoes" even once. *blech*

My strategy is to hum Tom Lehrer as loudly as I can without being obnoxious. Now that I think of it, my current workplace has a lobby where there's usually a radio station being piped in. So far, the music has been fine, but I guess I'll have to brush up on him. :-)

(I also occasionally say things like, "Know where, Izzy? In the shtetl?", but try to keep them quiet.)
