Parnell Hall, A Puzzle in a Pear Tree

Murder during the school Christmas pageant. The schtick of the puzzle Lady series is that the story includes crossword puzzles that the reader can solve while reading, and the detective is what the Murder She Wrote lady would be like if she were an outrageous alcoholic who said "fuck" a lot.

Kate Sedley, The christmas Wassail

Part of the Roger Chapman series about a peddler in Richard III's England with King Richard portrayed mostly positively, not as Shakespeare's villain) who keeps getting drafted by the royal family to solve crimes or otherwise gets involved in homicides.

Of course! How could I forget Parnell Hall! I read that one shortly after it came out in paperback. Another detective series that usually has the detective figuring it out and having a "lay it all out on the table" moment rather than just being assaulted by the killer.
