Sounds like a Jolly old gas, but... the ball and chain is firmly convinced that we're going to tour the continent for the whole second half of October! I tried mildly suggesting that Brighton might be far enough for a bit of the old R and R, but I guess she wants to go to Paris with some old friends who share her obscure fascination with Martian clays. (Why good old Salt of the Earth English clay isn't good enough for her is well beyond me! And why do they need to be in Paris to talk about it if it's all the way on Mars?)

Anyhow, regrets to the aunts, condolences to the engaged, et and cetera.

I am going to have to check with the other residents of my household, but I'd love to knock the ball for six if I can arrange the time away -- so much going on it can be difficult to get away, you know? But a weekend in the country sounds positively *smashing*.
