Day 7. Favourite Moveset

The one thing I’ve noticed about DDFF (and DFF), is that none (or very few) of the characters have a ‘perfect’ move set, there are usually flaws; either useless BRV attacks, not enough BRV attacks, useless HP attacks, not enough HP attacks, too many HP attacks.

There are loads of problems with the ‘perfect’ battle in DFF. By ‘perfect’ I consider battling against fellow people rather than the AI (when you’re fighting the AI, I’m a firm believer of ‘anything goes’ and ‘anything to win and progress’..)

Against a ‘human’ opponent, I think the key consideration is spamming and (preferably) not doing it! Now, some characters really FORCE you to spam. WoL comes to mind instantly, I have two HP attacks that I religiously use for him. Rune Sabre and Shining Wave. I’ve tried Ultimate Shield, but the vulnerability period is immense and it’s highly dodge-able.

I find the same for his BRV attacks; I spam one or two and little else! Occasionally a blast of magic, but mostly his ‘Crossover’ attack (the one that chains in to Rune Sabre).

So yes; WoL is not an example of what I (personally) view to be a ‘good’ move set as it forces you to spam the same moves over and over.

Now, I accept that for several reasons there are moves we rely on as players (be it that they’re useful, flashy, versatile or simply cause something sexy to happen like a gravelly growl or a flash of arse…), however, a truly ‘good’ or ‘versatile’ move set should be full of useful moves rather than one or two faves…

Another factor in what makes a good move set is familiarity. I cannot comment on Exdeath’s move set and whether it is the ULTIMATE BEST EVAR! as I’ve never played as him…

However, I can say with confidence that Firion has a lot of useful moves that I can use as I played all of 000: Confessions of a Creator with him as my main and I continually use him for Party Mode grinding at level 100 (he’s also the first character I got to lvl 100 with WoL at close second, for some reason…)

So, now that I’ve gone completely off topic and rambled forever about what makes a good move set and what I judge a good move set by, let me actually just make a decision, I’m going to go with top 3;

- Cecil
This might be a bit of a surprise. It’s not Firion! However, I do have a legitimate reason for choosing Cecil and that is versatility. I like the Dark Knight Paladin mix, although I did find it hard to use effectively at first. Unlike Lightning’s Paradigm shifts, Cecil’s is pretty much automatic, I don’t have to toggle through anything to get him to change forms. I just have to plan out an appropriate attack at the right moment and bam~! I’m going from Dark Flame to Paladin Force!

- Firion
Yes, he is my close, close, _CLOSE_ second. I’ve become an automatic Shield-Basher (much to the chagrin of everyone) and I love Lord of Arms / Weaponmaster, though Weaponmaster is insanely easy to dodge and has a wide-open period of about… oh.. forever! My only issue with Firion is the lack of aerial combat, both in terms of HP and BRV. He fails to satisfy the high-flyer in me, but Kain fills the gap 8D … *LOLWUT*

- Kain
Third choice was actually pretty difficult for me, I love a lot of characters but I don’t simply want fan worship to cloud my judgement, like it does over Firion! However, after a lot of though (and thanks to Rai’s excellent entry on the subject), I came up with Kain. As has been said previously, he’s got excellent aerial skills, some of his HP attacks are viscerally satisfying when they do land and he has the sexiest voice and DEM LEGS, that voice makes everyone pregnant. / facts.
 Apologies for the wall of text and lack of imagery!  xD;;;
