Day 8. Favourite Dissidia storyline
Now, I think it's important to establish that I did buy the original Dissidia, I played a few of the Destiny Odysseys and then I gave up because I hated Destiny Points with the fiery passions of a Mega Flare.
When Duodecim (DD) came out, I already knew I was going to buy it; which I know is madness if I was dissatisfied with the first one, but I'd heard about the improvements and Kain and Laguna are a legit reason to do anything in life!
Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that my experiences of the storyline are based pretty solely on DD’s version (though I did play a bit of the original, but from what I could tell 013 is the original, just with a world map and no Destiny Points!)
Duodecim
I think in DD, we’re really spoilt for choice in terms of storyline content. 012, 013, 000 and the various reports which show little glimpses in to the lives of these warriors whilst delivering a hazy story of the events that led to World B.
For that reason, I love the reports. At first I wondered if the reports were some sort of teaser for Type-0 / Agito, but then I realised that this was the story of Chaos, Cid and his wife, and later Cosmos.
This was something of a revelation for me and it was quite enjoyable to read those fragmented ‘memories’, researcher entries and passages on World A and World B. However, that couldn’t be considered my favourite story - just an interesting side hobby that had the added bonus of some character interaction and additional scene setting.
My, personal, favourite storyline would have to be Firion’s LOL WHAT MANNER OF UNOBVIOUS ANSWER IS THIS!? But I do love everyone’s storylines seeing as most of them interweave and collide at different points. Plus I do love the fact that Firion got deflowered. (pr0n potential, go Sephy!)
So a few of my favourite Firion-story moments;
(note: all scenes have been taken from the Game FAQ’s story script by Seed_of_Squall)
[The setting is Kefka's Tower. Firion is leaning against a wall while Tidus sits on top of it. Firion generates a rose in his hand]
Tidus: "What are you doing?"
[Firion makes the rose vanish]
Firion: "It's the wild rose. (Oh yeah. That's right...) (The enemy stole it from me that time...)"
Tidus: "So, tell me all about the wild rose!"
Firion: "Break time's over. We should get going soon."
[Firion begins to walk away]
Tidus: "Heh. All right, then."
[Tidus stretches and begins to follow Firion]
Tidus: "Once I deal with my old man and find my crystal, I'll make you tell
me."
Firion: "You're so nosy, Tidus."
Tidus: "Firion, what's your goal in life?"
Firion: "What do you mean?"
Tidus: "You know, to become the world's best swordsman! Or, there's a guy you just have to beat! Like Cloud and Cecil, a goal to strive for as you go down your own path! You gotta have one to make it through what we're facing."
Firion: "Right now, all I can think of is to end the conflict, no matter what
it takes."
Tidus: "Ahhh, you're so uptight!"
Firion: "Something wrong with that?"
Tidus: "In times like these, you just gotta let yourself go!"
This scene is very lol-worthy, proving just how bashful Firion is and how he lost his virginity! I like that Tidus is bullying him a little- just like Jecht would, but I’m sure Jecht would be more direct! (like father like son amirite?). Also that bit on the world map where Tidus kept talking over Firion made me LOL, seriously LOL!
[The two warrios of Cosmos are now back on the world map]
Firion: "--Finally caught up! Are you alright? Why did you go running off all of a sudden?"
Tidus: "Huh? Oh, sorry! I just...couldn't help it."
Firion: "...You should at least tell me before you go running off. Then I can get prepared. I understand your eagerness...but we would do our best to remain calm."
D’awwww! Firion assuming his role as Tidus’s adoptive mother (LOL JECHT DIS YOUR NEW WIFE?!). Another example of Firion’s flustered, bashful, but ultimately good-hearted nature!
[Ultimecia and the Emperor teleport away]
Firion: "Am I...just Cosmos's tool?"
A glimpse at Firion’s nature, specifically; his insecurities. I guess for one so young he’s had to do a lot of growing up in a short space of time. This sort of traumatic upbrinigng would have the possibly of turning you in to a confident or more reserved person - Firion being the latter.
He worries about his identity, what he quintessentially is as a person. In the English version he laments about being a “Tool of War”, something he does not wish to be thus he seeks reassurance from others that he is not just an object -- but, rather, a person too…
Aaaand here’s the comfort he seeks;
[Firion continues on ahead and comes to the only gateway that remains between him and the land of discord. He enters. The setting shifts to Dream's End. Firion is standing alone, thinking. Cosmos appears]
Firion: "Cosmos!"
Cosmos: "Cloud, Cecil, and Tidus have each obtained their cyrstals."
Firion: "They've done it... They've really done it!"
Cosmos: "Yes. Because they never stopped walking down the paths they chose."
Firion: "The paths they chose..."
Cosmos: "Have you lost yours?"
Firion: "I...never had a specific objective I could call my own... like winning against my father, or winning alongside my brother. I just wanted to bring an end to the conflict. It's like the Emperor said. I'm only a tool without a will of my own."
Cosmos: "That is untrue. You do have a goal. A dream that you have kept inside your heart for a long time."
Firion: "But my dream is nothing special. It's more like...just a childish dream."
Cosmos: "Tell me your dream-- and the future you wish for in your heart."
Firion: "Wild roses... My dream is a world filled with wild roses. When the battle is over, I want to fill the world with flowers. A world where we can overcome what we have lost, where even the rain and the wind can provide us with strength..."
Cosmos: "It's a beautiful dream. A dream that was born out of none other than you. If you were a mere tool, you would not have had such a dream."
Firion: "Cosmos... You're right. It is my dream. And it's up to me to seize it."
Cosmos: "I wish I could have such a dream..."
[Cosmos vanishes]
Firion: "And you can. I promise."
D’awww even mama Firion needs a boost sometimes, enter Mama Cosmos! Suddenly I want to ship Firion/Cosmos LOL What is this I don’t even…

[Firion clears the dungeon of manikins and reaches the Stigma of Chaos here. The setting shifts to the Interdimensional Rift. The Emperor is standing here, waiting for Firion as he approaches]
Emperor: "What does an aimless tool of war want with me?"
Firion: "I am not just a tool. I fight in order to make my dream come true!"
Emperor: [laughs] "Wild roses? You shouldn't risk your life over such a worthless dream. You don't even have the strength to take hold of it."
[The Emperor fires several energy blasts at Firion. They hit him and bring him
to his knees]
Emperor: "What's the matter? Are you done dreaming?"
[Cloud and Tidus run up and get between the Emperor and Firion]
Cloud: "We won't let it end!"
Firion: "You guys!?"
Cloud: "You've gone far enough on your own."
Tidus: "A friend's dream is our dream... We'll defend it together!"
[The Emperor fires three more blasts. Each Warrior of Cosmos present blocks
one]
Emperor: [Heh] "The time has come..."
[The Emperor teleports away]
Emperor (offscreen): "Firion! Come to where I am! Come and show me your will!"
Cloud: "Cecil and Terra should be joining us soon, but--"
Tidus: "You're going alone, aren't you?"
Firion: "I must settle this."
[Cloud holds out his hand to Firion. The wild rose appears there]
Firion: "How did you--"
Cloud: "Show us the rest of your dream."
Tidus: "That's right! We'll all be waiting for you."
Firion: "I'll be back!"
DAMSEL IN DISTRESS ALERT!!!!
Seriously, I love that people feel the need to protect Firion, in a way I think it’s testament to the bonds he’s made with the other characters - they want to help him. Also, the fact that his dream spreads like an infectious virus of moe is further proof that Firion has a fair degree of clout within the group. Cloud and Terra picking up the banner of his world of Wild Roses is very cute, and the fact that the world and his wife seems to know about that dream is also super-amusing!! (LOL, even Matty knows!)
(Oh Cloud, how quick you are to give flowers to another guy… Don’t cheat on Kuja!)
[After the final battle with the Emperor]
[The Emperor's body finishes vanishing. Firion's crystal appears in front of him, a pink obelisk-like object. Firion approaches it and claims it]
Firion: "(Perhaps the battle has just begun.) (In that case, let us keep dreaming.) (A world full of wild roses--) (Along with my friends, I'll make it come true.) It will come true. Someday!"
LOL PINK ROSE-SHADED CRYSTAL, HOW APPROPRIATE!
I loved that the crystal was such a rosy tint! Seems very apt for Firion to have the ‘rose crystal’…!
