Quake!

Ah ha! That was an earthquake I felt at 5:25-a magnitude 4.5 quake about 14 miles away. There were a few seconds of the house shaking mildly and the pictures on the wall rattling. Now I've noticed as many earthquakes while in Seattle as I had while down in Southern California, right by the San Andreas fault.

Ah! I was still awake at 0525 (and why were you?), and though I don't recall shaking (I was lying down in bed at the time), I do recall hearing odd noises that are not inconsistent with the house moving. Bizarre...

A mattress might absorb some of the shaking, and the Lighthouse being multi-storied probably makes it more noticeable. (And I was still up because programming was distracting, and I didn't have to be up early today.)

I still have yet to feel an earthquake here. Although I am a bit jaded after having lived through a couple of large ones in CA and many minor ones in Japan.

Although the one in Japan that freaked me out the most was while I was sitting on the toilet in my 13th floor apartment and feeling everything start to sway......

Ha, nice user icon. I really want there to be a poster of that comic.

Thanks. Yeah, that would be nice. We've named our house full of grad students after it (hence the icon), and I may end up going for the color printer method of poster generation.

Yes, I've printed out a copy for my office and one for my room at home.

That ratio is very silly. Also I am jealous, as I slept through this one, so I have felt 0 earthquakes in Seattle and I like earthquakes. (Small ones, not so much the Loma Prieta quake.)
