I've had those, and they're not fun. I've found that you can get Baby Shampoo and use it on your eye. Be sure to get the "No More Tears" type, or you'll regret putting it on your eyes! A stye is very very similar to acne, or a zit, on your eyelid, so you can use soap to clean out the area.
Haha..I nearly forget the old wife theory if not for this post. Me and my siblings were told to do so when we were young and it has to be black string!

Anyway, this picture is not me. But taken from Wikipedia. My stye is inside the eyelid, not outside... so may be too challenging to clean with soap.

I have popped them with straight pins before too, though you've got to be extra careful being right next to your eye.
