My first stop in Nanjing brought me to the Presidential Palace at 40Y admission fee. This place is significant as the place where Sun Yat Sen was first sworn in as the first provisional president of the Republic of China in 1911. The Yu Gardens was built during the Ming Dynasty in 1559. Other than being an ancient and significant private garden, its various stone structures, pagodas and pavilions provided excellent photo opportunities for tourists. Not to missed in Shanghai is the "architecture museum" that constitutes the Shanghai Bund. One excellent way to enjoy the scenery is to take a ferry from Pudong Dongchang Road Ferry Terminal (东昌路轮渡) costing only 2Y. The ferry crosses the Huangpu River (黄浦江) with excellent views of the bund on one side and the Pudong New Area(浦东新区) of the other. ( Read more... )

With four levels of exhibits, the Shanghai Museum of Science and Technology is very huge. Unlike many science centres that focused on gaining knowledge about science, this museum is just plain fun. Shanghai Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum is located in the Shanghai TCM University located at the far eastern end of Pudong. Travel to the end of the MRT Line 2 to Zhangjiang Gaoke Station (张江高科站) and transfer to a bus to Huatuo Road (华佗路). Part of the Oriental Pearl Tower package, the Shanghai History Museum is located at the ground floor of the tower. It is an excellent glimpse into Shanghai past and present through images and figures. A good way to start my tour by finding out more about the place I am visiting. Depending on how high you want to go up the tower, the admission fees vary. I bought the 150Y ticket that included all three observation spheres, the Space City and the Shanghai History Museum. There is an even more expensive ticket that includes a Huangpu River cruise but I gave that a miss. The observation decks are at 90 m, 263 m and 350 m. ( Read more... )

From Pudong International Airport to the city is approximately 8 minutes by the superfast Magnetic Levitation Train. Tickets cost 40Y if you show your air ticket for the day (usual price 50Y).
