I hate hipster thrift stores

Sep 15, 2008 13:30

I am boycotting Buffalo Exchange and Aaardvark's Odd Ark forever. I thought I could get rid of my old clothes and get a little money, but I got rejected from BOTH stores. Apparently I'm not trendy enough. At Buffalo Exchange I waited for over an hour in line, while every single girl got the stamp of approval and took her clothes to the register for ( Read more... )

oh that chain pisses me off. All they took from me was my 'I hate myself and I want to die' shirt.

The one in Costa Mesa sometimes carries more punky/recycled hot topic-y stuff, which looks cool with wear. But yeah. those stores suck. I still have a huge bag of clothes I need to get rid of. if you find a place, let me knwo.

That's because they all hate themselves and want to die.

I've called a few thrift stores down and here, and none of them offer money for clothes. The only stores that buy clothes are the super trendy hipster stores it seems. Seriously, those stores can eat me.

I've actually seen them reject stuff, and then offer to "donate" it. a week later, I saw the "donated" items for sale. I know of at least two other people Buffalo Exchange has pulled that crap on.

SUCK!

But, word of advice - donate to goodwill and itemize the deduction from your taxes! You'll get a nice little tax break and you'll help folks out AND you won't have to deal with a hipster twit! win-win-win! I'll help you out with it if you want.

They are EVIL. Pure evil.

Way ahead of you, dollface! Immediately following my rejection, I took my clothes to goodwill and got a receipt for it. I'm looking forward to that nice tax break. :-D

But, do I list the items individually? I guess I can ask you that later...

hey havs, don't worry. those stores are kinda like boutiques. they can be picky about what they buy from people. I wouldnt take it seriously or be offended. Linh and I took a huge bag of stuff each a while back and they rejected a lot of our stuff. even old vintage (actually vintage) dresses that I had. sometimes supply and demand play a huge factor and if they have a surplus of a certain type of garment they wont take any at all. im sorry you had to wait so long though dude. :o(

Thanks Tats. That makes me feel a little less bitter at them. I don't know if I ever want to shop there again though. I just really don't like their attitude towards people who don't dress "trendy". It felt like the popular girls rejecting nerdy me all over again. Heh.

totally understandable. I too know what that feels like. People suck sometimes

Laaaaaaaame. I'm too lazy to even bother with those places, though. I just donate everything to Goodwill (or, more likely, give it to someone who's also planning to make a Goodwill run soon).

Yeah, that's what I'm going to do from now on. I don't want to even bother with snobby people and driving all the way to a store when they won't even accept my clothes.
