Welcome to the Hotel California

Sep 18, 2011 19:55

After two excellent birthday bashes, a Doctor Who/My Little Pony party (OMG John de Lancie playing Discord but was just pretty much Q as a weird goat dragon creature = WIN), and a shit ton of laundry, I relaxed, finished up my latest set of nesting dolls, and rewatched “The Girl Who Waited” and “The God Complex”.

Spoilers for The God Complex )

Oooh, good point re: the Rubik's cube!

I definitely caught it, but someone else reminded me that it showed up twice in this episode. The first time, it was scrambled, the second time, it was solved.

Ooh, I didn't notice the second time (when?), but I did wonder if its reappearance was significant in the beginning! Hmm.

Oh god, I can't remember exactly when. It was just a moment where he had it in his hands and was talking about something, but you could definitely tell it was solved.

Also, someone pointed out on Tumblr that he was eating an apple, but it was established in "The Eleventh Hour" that Eleven hates apples. That could be more of a continuity thing, but still. Interesting.

Whoa, he wrote bits of that at Mohonk?!?!

LARGE SWATHES OF MY CHILDHOOD JUST BECAME VERY SINISTER.

Yep! Apparently, he would get a room for a few weeks and write books. The long driveway leading up to Mohonk is (I guess, I never read it) a lot like the one in Misery. When I found all this out, I could not go anywhere in that building by myself.

I agree about Amy Williams. How is keeping your own name a sign that you need to grow up? Bah.

And I didn't expect Amy and Rory to totally stop traveling with the Doctor. I be they will be back - but still, wow!

Otherwise I didn't care for the episodes - I thought it was a little slow and they've been in a lot of sort of haunted house/mazes already.

I did like the stuff between Amy and the Doctor though.

It did seem a little odd to have spooky apartment with creepy dolls only two weeks earlier, though I think I read somewhere that Night Terrors was pushed to the latter half of this season or something.

That makes sense - and yeah, I'd heard the creepy doll episode was supposed to go before some of the Melody reveal. I'd read some criticism of why Amy and Rory were reacting the way they were but it was really because none of that had happened yet.

I definitely have some issues with how Amy, Rory and the Doctor have reacted regarding Melody, but I'm waiting for the season to be over before I discuss them.

I WAS HAVING MAJOR SHINING ISSUES THROUGHOUT THIS EPISODE.

For me, it was House of Leaves. Shifting rooms, bigger inside than outside, abandoned notes, AND a Minotaur? So creepy.

I've never read House of Leaves, but is it the one that has all the weird page formatting? I have always been intrigued by it!

I've never read it either, but only because I read enough about it to avoid it. It looks like enough of a mindscrew to mess up my sleep for a very long time.

I am sure we havent seen the last of the Ponds. And can I just once again say that Rory is THE PERECT HUMAN BEING?? He had already resigned himself to the fact that he was going to, sometime soon, stop traveling with the doctor. He said he was done in The Girl Who Waited, and instead of that romanticized "oh okay i'll stick with you even though you basically treat me like garbage" stockholm syndrome most companions have, he MEANT TI GOD DAMMIT. Not to mention he was the only one so grounded that the weird faith-feeding minotaur thing couldn't even use him. Man. Bless you, Rory. BLESS YOU.

I loved Rita. LOVED HER!!

And I am so excited for the next episode but would also be TOTALLY FINE WITH THE DOCTOR AND RIVER SHOW. GIVE IT TO ME. I NEED IT.

I was actually expecting some sort of falling out, given Rory's interaction with the Doctor in "The Girl Who Waited".

Not to mention he was the only one so grounded that the weird faith-feeding minotaur thing couldn't even use him. Man. Bless you, Rory. BLESS YOU.

I read this sort of neat idea on Tumblr (here): "Rory saw an Exit Door. He also used past tense when he was talking to the Doctor. That was Rory’s door-he had faith in “having an exit.” Rory believes there’s always a way out. Clever writing, in my opinion. ;)"

BUT BASICALLY, YES. Either way, Rory Williams?
