On the one hand you have the failed/non-practising christians, who might be accused of being secular but if push came to shove would soon show their colours. A sort of repressed Alf Garnet lurks waiting to be unleashed.
At the other pole you have the new (read future) population, consisting predominantly of Islamic Arabic communities. Just take a walk through Birmingham airport and take note of the multi-lingual signs.
Being a good businessman, essential for election to the papacy, Benedict is merely taking the first tentative steps towards a merger or reverse takeover deal.
