Scans: JLA: Divided We Fall (2/4)

Jan 18, 2008 17:53

So, divided into Superman and Clark Kent and Batman and Bruce Wayne, how are the World's Finest managing?

Well, Clark is doing pretty well, although he's a bit timid:

Superman doesn't go evil or anything, but he does start being a lot more task-oriented and less likely to put up with extraneous issues.  Responsibility and duty are the keywords, and little else.

Gosh, that Bruceless Batman sure seems nice!  In fact, that's about the last words he speaks in the storyline, beyond an occasional terse "Over there" or some such.  Everyone starts to kind of forget he's even there.

Meanwhile, Superman is pretty much a walking personality-free superego, and changes into more traditional Kryptonian garb:

Desperate question for all readers:  those...thingies...on the arms of Superman's costume.  Byrne included them on traditional Kryptonian clothing and I cannot, for the life of me, figure them out.  Are they...ruffles?  Some kind of bone?  Foam?  What the heck?

Back on Earth, Bruce Wayne reverts to feckless playboy:

Or does he?  Turns out, Bruce has some problems with anger.  Just a few issues:

I have to admit to being distracted by how good-looking he is in that second panel.   Pretty...

Um, right.  Anger management.  As Bruce becomes more consumed by his fury, Batman becomes more and more passive, until we reach a scene in the climactic battle that made me yelp out loud.  The League is taking on the sixth-dimensional beings that split them up, and things aren't going well.  Green Lantern and Superman don't work well with others or properly take into account the civilians, Plastic Man is totally unreliable, and Batman...

YAAAA!  Eyeless Batman, do not want!

*ahem*  Right, so without Bruce's passion to drive him, Batman basically just stands around waiting for people to hit him.  Eel O'Brian, the hero of this storyline, takes matters into his own hands and explains more in the next set of scans.

Brrrrr.  Eyeless Batman gives me the jibblies...

jla, scans, divided we fall
