That was why I was kinda glad, no matter how much I would have loved it, that there was no shout out to Superman in TDK, because I know that I would have squeed. Out loud. Very loudly. And totally embarrassed myself, LOL!
I know what you mean about the shout-out, lol! It looks like we might get to see it this weekend with rai_daydreamer and we'd probably stand up and cheer and everyone would stare at us, lol...
*grin* Yeah, that would be me, too. Anything comic-y. I found a new comic shop recently, in the town an hour away from us, on a family shopping trip, and thoroughly embarrassed my sister by running in around going 'Oooh! Ah! OMG, they have the Marian Manhunter 4-part mini! I'm buying this, excuse me!" Yeah, I'm not a geeky fangirl at all, am I? *sheepish grin*
I generally try to keep that tightly leashed, because, well...almost-40-year-old woman running around squealing at Superman sheets in Target is not cool, lol. But Dan and I always gravitate to anything superhero-themed, it's like a magnet. And there's so much of it in random places in the world...you know how much Blakes' 7 references you're likely to run into--in comparison comics fandom is like hog heaven, lol...
I'd probably have a similar sort of reaction if I didn't keep NPR on a lot of the time-- enough news stories have desensitized me to that reaction.
I've never really thought about trying to restrain my whiplash-inducing responses of "Ooh, you said Batman? What?" Most of my friends have similar objects of fan obsession, and one even works part-time at a comic shop to supplement his freelance writing income (so we can flail together over events). I used to write fic in HP and LotR fandoms, but...yeah, I made sure that anything higher than PG-13 was well-separated from my usual range of screennames and such. :P I tend to do the same for my original writing now, come to think of it.
I do wish I had more fannish friends! Although most of the time I'm in America I'm with my family and I don't really wish to share too much fannishness with them...although yeah, my sister, maybe. My high school friends are all, uh, very much guys and we geek out over things like Star Wars and online games together, but anything I actually write for I tend to keep off-limits, lol...
