There is so much in this that I love. Give me a minute to get my head together enough to tell you what ...

"Could you tell me his last name?"

Bruce's eyes focused on Kal. "What?"

"Slaves don't legally have family names. But I know you have them. I'd like to know Alfred's."

"It's...Pennyworth. Alfred Pennyworth."

"Pennyworth," Kal repeated carefully, committing it to memory. "Thank you."

Because it all but had me in tears. And this:

There was a short silence and then Bruce sprang to his feet in a bound, all submission gone, a tiger uncaged. "In here. In this room and this circle alone. And if you don't play the part well enough in public, Kal, I'll insist on practicing it in here until you get it right." He grinned at Kal, but Kal couldn't bring himself to smile in return.Because of all it says about both of them. Because it's beautiful, and fierce, and it makes my heart ache for them both ( ... )

Alfred makes everything awesome, even discussions about him! :)

I had fun with the lying game--Kal is so terrible at it. They might have to play some more later, as there are many fun things that can be done with confessions embedded into it...

South America! I could so clearly see Kal's vision of Bruce, loping along the sand with water-dazzled sun everywhere...*sighs*

*hugs* Thanks for the comment!

*grin* More lying game would be cool!

Oh, and on the subject of Alfred, I think I sent my essay to your gmail, but I'm not sure it went through. Ah ... did it?

Sorry to bug you!

I...wait...

*checks spam folder*

Darn you, Gmail! Who could imagine an essay about Alfred Pennyworth was spam??? And yet, there it was. Thank you for telling me you'd sent it or it would have disappeared into the depth of penis enlargement offers!

It's also very beautiful and I can hardly wait to put it up! As a matter of fact, it may well go up next time, as the person who's supposed to be writing the next one has disappeared off the planet, it seems. We'll see. I'd rather put this one up anyway. *grin*

Aww, sweet Kal! :)

His anger is admirable, but he's really going to get Bruce into trouble if he doesn't watch out! Tsk, tsk. :)

But I loved Kara covering for him, and Bruce's training.

Kal is so endearingly sweet and naive. I'm going to enjoy it, because soon enough his involvement in the anti-slavery movement will harden him to some extent. In more ways than one. ;)

He's such a terrible actor--he doesn't have all that training as Clark to help out. :) And yeah, he's going to have to, uh, harden up in some ways or Bruce and Kara will be fools to put their faith in him...frankly they're a bit dubious about it at the moment...

Thank you! Bruce is a master of self-control in any universe, but here it's...especially intense, somehow. He really doesn't allow much through. It's actually a great deal of fun to write! :)

This continues to absolutely thrill me. :D I particularly liked the 'pick the lie' session - interesting method of training, and fascinating in its own right. (Hee, peacocks!)

Thanks! It's good practice at bluffing and yeah, the lies and truths one chooses are quite intersting in and of themselves, aren't they? :)
