A Few Things...

Sep 11, 2008 21:43

I leave tomorrow morning early early early (the bus leaves at 6:30) to get a bus to L.A., a plane to Tokyo, then another plane to Nagoya.  A full day of travel!  But it will be good to be home again, although I've had a wonderful time here in San Diego.

Random things making me happy:

The Alera Codex? Damn! I haven't found that one. I didn't even know he had another series! It's all been Dresden Files with me (though believe me, they were worth it). Must look those up! Thanks, Jen!

And Butcher really does have that gift. You feel for all his characters, even the ones you should probably hate.

It's...maybe you know it as the Furies series? It's fantastic! More traditionally sword & sorcery than "Dresden Files," it sounds like, but one of those books that I can hardly put down at all, every chapter has something totally gripping in it. And yeah, I think I already know what one of your favorite characters will probably be from it when/if you read it. :)

It's called the Codex Alera series, the first book is titled "Furies of Calderon"

Then there's "Academ's Fury," "Cursor's Fury," and then "Captain's Fury."

Entirely awesome books. The fifth book is coming out in November.

Can't recommend them enough.

ETA: I started reading the Dresden Files and then picked this up, this series IMO is even better. A lot of action, romance, even some pretty good (if non-explicit) sex.

Ah. I shall definitely look them up, then! Though it was have to be a very, very good thing to top the Dresden Files, in my book.

Thanks!

I've heard good things about Hellsing as well! And I'll have to pick up the Vampire Knight anime--I'm hoping maybe I can watch it without subtitles now that I know the basic plot from the manga...

Have a safe trip, Jen, and I'm glad you had a good time here in the States.

Great scan you put up! :)

I had a great time in San Diego, but it will be good to be home! I'm in the Los Angeles airport right now but will have to go board very soon. *clings to laptop*

Yeah, I have a weakness for angsty pretty boys, I have to confess. :)

*hugs* I hope all the traveling goes okay! That is way to early to get up. *hugs again*

Oooh, that manga looks interesting! I might have to see if I can find it anywhere... :)

I'm in the Los Angeles airport now, and taking my last chance to talk to everyone! *clings*

You should give it a try! I was going to say there's a Bruce-like character in it, but there are actually two, lol...both of the guys in that scan share a lot with Bruce--one's the angsty loner Bruce and the other's the aristocratic, self-confident Bruce. And they're both beautiful. :)

Oooh, I had been wondering if the Alera Codex was any good. I've been reading the Dresden Files for years now (They are also awesome, and you should get them!) and it sounds like everything I like about the Dresden Files, only in a Sword-and-Sorcery world.

Also, yay for someone else who's reading Vampire Knight! I actually need to pick that back up. The anime is pretty good to, and not too different; just as pretty. Actually, if it's the art style and the angsty bishies that you like, I'd recommend Trinity Blood more than Hellsing.

I definitely will read the Dresden Files as well! I do recommend the Codex Alera (apparently I'm getting the name reversed!)--it's really good.

I spotted Trinity Blood and wasn't sure if it would have any pretty angsty boys, since the main character seems to be a vampire hunter. I'll definitely have to check it out, whee!

There are a few pretty angsty girls, but mostly? Very pretty angsty boys. The main character (Abel) is pretty much a clone of fanon!Sephiroth. In a lot of ways. Which makes *me* very happy, though it annoys some people. It doesn't really have any notable shonen-ai among the good guys (more het there) but the villains are very slashy. and pretty.

In summary: pretty!
