This meme made me laugh, because when I read the news article about Palin's interview I immediately trotted to DaMo's office and said, "Hey, how many Supreme Court cases can you name and at least know a little about?" :) Glad I wasn't the only one.

Plessy v. Ferguson and Brown v. Board of Education were hammered into my mind during High School by various history classes so they where the first that came to my mind.

I got stuck in a boring meeting today and ended up jotting notes to myself as I came up with other names--"Oh, ACLU v. Skokie, that's a great one! And Lawrence v. Texas, I love that one!" And, uh, feeling like a dork. :)

I find the Supreme Court amazing, these 9 people working so close together on such important things, and we see so little of their personalities and souls, it's...like the JLA, lol...

Of course that's just because I pay attention when I watch movies, but still, I'd kind of expect most US citizens to be able to name quite a bit more of these than I can.
It's quite sad.
(on an OT note: I realized a couple days ago that I'll be in Alaska on Nov. 4th -- that should be....interesting. *lol*)

The one where a man was arrested & convicted for burning the US flag & the Supreme court overuled the sentance on the grounds that the man was protected under the First Amendment.
And the one from 2003 (??) where they ruled anti-sodomy laws violates a couples right to privacy.
Oh, and I can thank Steven Spielberg for this one.
The case of the slave ship Amistad. The Supreme Court upheld a ruling stating that the 'slaves' were not slaves but kidnapped 'free' persons and were to be released.
