Went on a short holiday with my favourite hippi last week. We got up to allsorts and I took a *few* photos. There's a lot here for me, but I have whittled down the total a lot :)
O and the webspace the photos is on is playing up - so access may vary :)
Tuesday. It was interesting to explore Carlisle through someone elses eyes - it struck me what a remarkably nice city it is nowadays. I wouldn't want to live there, it's just too small, but they've certainly pulled their socks up a long way. A whistle stop history tour included the castle, cathederal, art gallery and citadel hehe :) Poked around a couple of shops and lucheoned at the delightfully Ankh-Morpork-ian "Loaf 'n Ladle". O and got L a lil punkette top :) Anecdote: I bought tickets for the Thursday premiere of King Arthur at the Warner Village in the afternoon. Later sitting ouside a coffee shop a girl approaches us and asks if we want free tickets to see King Arthur, as she can't use them. She's left them with us before we can get to the bottom of it. L thinks it was karmic - I think it was cos we looked like a deserving cute couple :) Anyhow the showing's in ten minutes. So we toddle along and while I blag a full refund on the tickets I bought, L wangles two free tickets. Film was good, and not too Bruckheimer-twee :) Result! hehe
Wednesday. Went down to Grasmere in the Lake District. We went via the fell roads and saw Skiddaw, Derwent Water and Thirlmere en route. Was a bit disheartened to see the place crawling with pesky tourists, but our last minute choice of Rydal Water to walk round meant we avoided most of 'em. A fair way up the valleyside of Rydal water we found an old slate mine - a rather deep cave. Was perfect for L's firesticks so we yomped down and up again to fetch parafin :) Got loads of cool pics of fire, but only posted a couple here.
*Many of these are awful photos from a technical viewpoint.. but conditions were.. challenging
Thursday. After having seen 'King Arthur' on Tuesday, we just had to visit the wall proper :) We invaded Housesteads fort from the Woad-side; righteously avoiding the entry fee in lieu of the exorbitant parking charges :) Also found the Shield on the Wall area (some of the craggiest bits of the wall) with really good views of the undulating landscape. L got to bang her drum atop this peak while I got to grin manically at the passing befuddled ramblers :D
More importantly everyone got on well at home, and it was interesting to see yet another side to L.
I really like this girl ¬_¬
