OK, so I got this wonderful nice new computer and am trying to transfer the files from the old computer to the new one. Now, I can't do this by CD. The CD drive on the old machine is broken. Well, the first thing to think about with the network cable is: is it a crossover cable? Two of the pairs of wire are interchanged if they are. If it's not, I don't suppose you have a spare hub and network cable? That would work instead of a crossover cable. Some network cards autosense the cable type and switch if they need the other. But since you're getting an error, they probably aren't switching. I think a crossover cable will fix that, at least. It should be something they sell at Best Buy - though the monkeys might not be aware of it.
