The words of a well loved Aussie song. I do know a couple of people who were bitten by red-backs on the toilet seat...they are related to black widows so the bite is serious.
And thanks even more for the website. Saw a few songs I haven't actually heard for decades (my folks probably still have the Lionel Long LP, but I have no way to play it). Several tunes from that album, including "The Old Shearer," I have sung regularly to the Elfling since birth. He'll soon be old enough I'll have to edit the content of "Botany Bay" and drop "Morton's Bay," but "Waltzing Matilda" will still be fine. And I see a verse or two of "Click Go the Shears," so I'll have to brush up on that one.
"The Banks of the Condamine" closely parallels a Kiwi song I learned while living in NZ, "The Banks of the Waikato," except the singer is a bushman, and although he sings to "Sally," she doesn't sing back -- it's just the guy's verses. And I remember everyone used to sing "Black Velvet Band" all together at the end of various public gatherings.
What a trip down memory lane: music always carries so many memories, doesn't it?
