I managed to spill tea on my HP laptop and now, even after I thoroughly dried it out, half of the keys on the keyboard won't work.  I guess I should be thankful that seems to be the the only problem as nothing seems wrong with the actual computing part.  But does anyone have any advice as to how I could go about fixing it - preferably without ( Read more... )

I can't remember precisely what happened, but I know when my brother got his Dell laptop wet (I think he spilled drink on it) and naffed up the keyboard, he contacted the manufacturer and they sent him a new keyboard with instructions on how to replace it without charging him anything. Is yours under warranty, could you do that?

Alternatively, you could probably get a little wireless keyboard pretty cheaply, so long as you don't mind it being separate. (Although I'm biased as I actually prefer it, haha XD)

Unfortunately I don't think its still under warranty, though buying a new keyboard might work if it doesn't cost too much.

Darn. Sod's law, and all that.

Well, I got my little wireless keyboard (I'm using it at the moment) from a value supermarket for less than a tenner, and it's still going strong a year later (and god only knows how much crud I've spilled on it); it's just not ideal in terms of portability because it's another thing to have to lug around, and it doesn't fit in the laptop bag. XD

The advice people always give me regarding electronics and liquid: Put it in a container full of uncooked rice. That draws out the moisture (I've never tried it myself, but people swear by it).
