Farmers Markets in the Lower Mainland

Jun 19, 2009 12:55

My quest for fresh, local food has taken me to Google. At work last night I spent quite a while searching for whatever I could find in the Lower Mainland area, from West Van to Chilliwack. Today I will share local farmers markets. Next time I will share local meat, cheese, dairy, eggs and other such animal products.

I've been meaning to get out there, but have not done so yet.

I do get out to the Vancouver ones: Saturdays over at Trout Lake (most of my friends attend this one). Starting late July, for five consecutive Sundays, we'll have one in my neighbourhood (by the Joyce Collingwood Station). It'll include the ethnic veggies that aren't as common in the other markets.

Forstbauer is on my list for local meat & eggs. And their beef is 100% grass fed. I was surprised to find that 100% grass fed beef is not easy to find locally. Hopcott Farm in Pitt Meadows is much closer to my house and while their meat is considered "free range" they still feed their cows grain.
