Chapter Six: It’s Wrong But It Feels So Right
~*~
Kame’s walking happily as he sways his shopping bags in the air. Then, suddenly he stops. Jin? Yes, Jin is currently waiting in front of his house. And by the looks of it, it seems like the older man was waiting for him for a couple of hours now. Kame quickly hides at the tree besides him. He doesn’t want to see Jin. He’s not prepared. And, he still doesn’t know what he’s going to say and how he will act towards the latter.
Kame peeked out from the tree he was hiding to see Jin. “What am I going to do? Should I go and talk to him? Or wait here until he walks away?” He uttered softly. “But it would be rude if I wait here and pretend that I’m still not home. Besides, Kaori and Aya would be home soon, I still need to prepare our dinner. What should I do?”
Jin noticed something was looking at him intensely. It was like the gaze is coming from the tree that is a few meters away from him. He looked at the corner of his eyes, pretending that he doesn’t sense anything suspicious. But unfortunately, he can’t tell what or who it is. He needs to take a full look to determine it.
Kame sat down and hides himself. He decided to wait until the latter would go away. It’s alright if he cook a little late since he thinks that Aya and Naoko could bear to wait.
A few minutes had passed and Kame decided to take a look if Jin is still around. He takes a peek and found out that the latter had gone away. He sighs as a sign of relief. He quickly gathered his things and stood up. He was about to take a step when a very familiar voice spoke out of nowhere.
“Good thing you came back safely,” Jin said happily. Kame was shocked. He turned around only to see Jin smiling at him.
“Wha- h-how…?” Kame was confused. How on earth did Jin able to figure out that he is hiding? And most of all, where he’s hiding?
“Yes?” Jin asked.
Kame sighed. “Nothing,” he answered. Explaining will not do anything besides, he was caught red handed.
“Ok. Now, why don’t I help you with your shopping bags? You sure had a lot of fun on shopping,” he said as he gets some of the bags from Kame’s grip.
“Ah-Ye-yeah, pretty much,” Kame stuttered. He can’t help himself calm down. Everything was too sudden.
“Come on, let’s get inside the house. The sun had already set. It will be dangerous if we still stay here,” Jin said as he led the way to Kame’s house. Kame followed the older man while still thinking on how the older man had able to found out about where he’s hiding.
“How could this guy found out? Am I to obvious? Or he saw me already and pretend that he don’t to make me come out from where I’m hiding” Kame asked to himself. Feeling a little amazed to what Jin had done.
~*~
Kame had already finished cooking dinner with the little ‘help’ of Jin, who had accidentally hurt himself while peeling the potatoes.
“It still hurts,” Jin protested as he looked at his index finger, which had been hurt.
“Jin, it doesn’t. You just think it is,” Kame said nonchalantly.
After Jin hurt himself, the uneasy feeling inside Kame had gone. Jin’s stupid acts made him feel comfortable. And Jin’s childishness made it shove away the thought what the older man had done to him.
“But it does,” Jin whined.
“It doesn’t, Jin,” Kame sighed.
“You just said that because you’re not the one who’s hurt,” Jin said. He sucks his index finger to ease the pain.
Kame rolled his eyes. “Whatever, Jin,” he said as he starts to place the placemats down the table.
Jin looked at Kame. After a few minutes, he asked, “Do you want me to help you?”
“No need,” Kame answered as he carries the plates towards the table.
“But, why? I’m a great helper,” Jin insisted to help.
“Jin, I don’t need help. You maybe the world’s greatest helper but I won’t ask for your help,” Kame said, pretending to be mean to his best friend.
“That’s mean. Are you telling me that I’m not good enough?” Jin asked again.
“What? I just don’t want you to help because you might break something or hurt yourself again,” Kame explained. Clearly, Jin is very stubborn and not to mention, not much of a help either.
“But, I won’t hurt myself again. Promise, I won’t,” Jin said as he raised his right hand.
Kame sighed. “Fine,” he said as a sign of defeat. “Get the water from the fridge,” he commanded.
Jin happily rose from his sit and did what the young man had commanded him. “See, I told you that I’m not going to hurt myself or break anything,” he said proudly.
Kame rolled his eyes and said, “Yeah, yeah, whatever”.
“Hey! Be nice,” Jin said.
“What do you want me to say?”
“Hmm… Like, ‘Wow, that’s great Jin. You’re really a great help’ or ‘Thanks you’re such a big help. I might need your help next time’,” Jin suggested as he shifted his normal voice to sweet one.
Kame raised his eyebrow. “This guy is sure is an idiot”.
Jin waited at Kame. “So? Aren’t you gonna say something? I already told you what I want you to say to me”.
Kame cleared his throat and said in a very girly and sweet voice, “Jin-sama, you are so great on helping me. I want to repay your kindness. Tell me what you want I’ll give it you”.
Jin was enlightened by what Kame had said. “The ‘Jin-sama’ thing is nice to hear. Can you repeat it again?” Jin asked as he cupped his hands to his ears.
“What?”
“I said, can you repeat the name that you had used to call me awhile ago,”
“What name? Jin?”
“No, the other one,”
“What ‘other one’?”
Jin rolled his eyes. “Jin-sama?” trying to make Kame remember the name he used to the older man.
“Jin-sama?” Kame copied what Jin had said.
“No, make it sweeter,” Jin commanded.
“What? Why would I do that?”
“You said that you will do anything that I want. Now, I want you to say ‘Jin-sama~’”.
“…”
“Argh!! Can’t you remember anything that you had just said awhile ago? Geesh, for a guy like you, you’re easy to forget everything,” Jin was really annoyed by Kame. First, the young man acts cold towards him and now, he can’t remember anything? “What’s next, he forgot his own name?”
Kame acts as innocent as possible. He feels like to annoy the older man, since he thinks that it’s the only way for the both of them to be more comfortable with each other, especially him. And it’s better this way than to avoid Jin. “Avoid Jin? I wonder if he feels that I’m distancing myself to him,” Kame suddenly asked himself. For some point, he wants to know what Jin feels.
“Ne, Jin. Uhmm… why did you came here? I mean… is there something you want to talk about?” Kame asked as he was thinking that Jin had came because of what had happened last week.
“Well… I came here just for a visit and… nothing else. Why?” Jin tried to ignore that truth about his visit. To be honest, he wants to Kame. He wants to, but he doesn’t have any courage to talk to the young man.
“Oh… nothing. I just thought that you want to talk to me about something, that’s all,” Kame said as he felt a little relieve. “Good thing he didn’t want to talk about the incident last week.” Although this made him feel relieve, it also made him feel sad. Deep down, Kame wants to know if the ‘kiss’ they had made Jin felt something. Something that made the older man felt the love of Kame for him, even just a tint of love. Kame hope so, because it’s always a dream for him to make the latter knows his feelings.
“By the way, how’s Naomi?” Kame asked even though it pains him to talk about Jin and Naomi.
“Oh, Naomi’s fine,” Jin answered plainly.
“I see, so how the relationship?” Another question from Kame. “Why should I have to ask? You’re just hurting yourself. And besides, it’s a private thing. You shouldn’t have to mind their lives. Mind yours, stupid!!” Kame scolded himself.
“We’re fine,” Another plain answer from Jin.
Kame nodded. “So, where is she? I haven’t seen her for a while,” Again, another question from him. “Damn it! Stop asking, Kame! It just makes you hurt. Do I really want to make myself suffer?” he asked himself.
“Naomi went back to L.A last Monday,” Jin informed Kame.
“Why?” Too bad, Kame can’t control himself from asking. “Whatever Kame, suit yourself. Don’t cry if you found out something bad by asking”.
“Hmm… I think she attended her sister’s wedding. Yeah, I think that’s what she had said to me,” Jin said as he tries to remember what had Naomi informed him.
“Oh… How come you didn’t accompany her?” Kame asked again.
“Well, I’m not invited,” Jin said as shook his head.
“But you are Naomi’s boyfriend and isn’t your relationship with her is legal? So, I think you should be in the wedding too,” Kame said as he felt jealous to Naomi. “They might be expecting you to come. After all, you’re their daughter’s boyfriend.” He tried to hide his sad face.
Jin and Naomi are together for six months now. They met in a bar in L.A. They became friends and after quite sometime, they became together. Naomi introduced Jin to her family. And fortunately, Jin was very welcome to her family. Her family finds Jin decent and well-educated. They didn’t disagree when Naomi introduced Jin to them. And Jin finds it easy to get along with Naomi’s family.
“If I go to L.A, I would leave you again,” Jin said. His plain answers turned into a serious one.
“It’s ok,” Kame said as if he doesn’t mind at all. “What are you saying? Of course it’s not ok. You waited so long for him to come back. And now you’re going to say that it’s ok? Do you want to see him leave a-,” he suddenly came back to his senses by Jin’s statement.
“No, it’s not ok,” Jin said. His eyes were dead serious that it made Kame felt afraid to look at. “I don’t want to leave. I don’t want to,” he said seriously.
“Ok, if you don’t want then don’t. Chill~,” Kame tries to calm his best friend but more on to himself. He doesn’t know how Jin became so serious about it.
“I’m sorry, it’s just that… it’s been so long since we talked, hang out… I just missed those days. And I want us to be like that again, even though years had passed. I’m thankful that you are still my best friend,” Jin explained.
Kame smiled. He didn’t know that leaving him had a great impact to Jin. It made him feel happy. He thought that their relationship as friends had already ended a few years ago and he was the only one who still thinks that they are still best friends. But it was wrong. Jin still treasured him as a best friend, well not like how he treasured the older man but still, it made him feel happy and wanted. He still had a place inside Jin’s heart.
Jin walked closer to Kame and hugged the young man. “And I hope you will still be in the future,” he whispered. Kame felt a little hurt. He was happy and still he is, but the last sentence that Jin had said made him think that, “Jin only sees me and will ever see me as a friend and nothing more”. Although, this is not new to Kame, it still hurts to realize that he will be nothing more than just a friend, a best friend.
