Help! Fashion Crisis!

What's everyone wearing on Saturday? I know the invitation says "Black Tie optional" but I don't know what that means for me! John's wearing his tux. Is my long burgundy A-line appropriate? I have a burgundy velvet 2-piece dress that's nice. Should I go shopping for something! ARGH! Help, fashionistas! Help this poor, backwater boho!

AFAIK most people are not doing black tie to this wedding (as opposed to marks where most people did). Your long burgundy A Line sounds completely appropriate with some nice jewels. ;)

I'm wearing black. I don't care what the rules say. I have a full length black velvet top, flowy bottom that i'm wearing.

btw, do you have the timeframe for arrival?

I am also doing black and Jeff is wearing black & a burnt orange shirt with a nice tie. No black tie this time.

Oh, I'm wearing the black convertible dress.... I wore it for NERE as well as Carissa.

I'm wearing a mid-calf length blue satin strapless dress with a black lace bolero (possibly to be replaced with something heavier if it is especially cold) and black satin heels.

My wedding was also black tie optional, so if you can remember what people were wearing it should give you a good idea of what folks will likely do on Saturday.

Generally it means classy cocktail or full length dresses for women.

Old rules state that wearing black to a wedding is an act of protest, but those fell out of usage many years ago, so black at a modern wedding is fine. "Black tie optional" means that men should wear a tuxedo or nice, dark suit and women should wear a formal full length gown or cocktail dress in whatever style is best for their shape/size ( ... )
