Rob tapped on the door, knowing it was his job to wake the newlyweds, but not wanting to disturb them. Upon hearing a muffled “Come in,” he did.
“Good morning, Sirs. The Morgan staff would like to know if you are having breakfast in your room or the dining room.”
Jared perched up on his elbows. “What would be easier for them? “
“Dining room,” Jensen mumbled, nestling further under the covers.
“Very good, sir.” Rob opened the drapes and let the late morning sun into the room.
Jensen grumbled and pulled the covers over his head.
“Oh, someone’s not a morning person,” Jared teased, pulling the blankets off his husband’s face and kissing his cheek.
Rob chuckled. “He never has been. If you require anything, Richard and I are right outside. Oh, there is big news in the household. Lady Morgan had her baby last night.”
Burrowing into the pillow, Jensen asked, “Boy or a girl?”
“A boy. They haven’t shared the name yet,” Rob replied before leaving.
As the door shut, Jared kissed Jensen’s temple. “Good morning, my love.”
Jensen brought his hand to Jared’s cheek in a gentle caress and kissed him. “It’s the first day of the rest of our lives together. I say we begin where we left off last night.” He kissed Jared’s jaw and neck, then collarbone and chest.
“Jensen,” Jared admonished him playfully. “Your men are right outside the door.”
“I’d rather they didn’t join us,” he teased.
Jared huffed a small laugh. “They’ll hear us.”
Jensen kissed Jared’s chest again and then shifted on the bed. “I’ll take that as a challenge,” he said, grinning wickedly. “Whoever can stay the quietest gets a prize.” He slid further under the covers and took Jared’s cock into his mouth, earning a squeal from his husband.
“Jensen!” Jared hissed.
Jensen released Jared’s cock long enough to whisper, “I won.” and then proceeded to give his husband the best blowjob he ever had.
After breakfast, the princes went to town to buy the baby a gift. Richard, Rob, and Jensen’s men accompanied them, though only Richard and Rob stayed close.
“Do you think Lady Morgan would like that candy I’ve made for you?” Jared asked as they passed a small sweet shop.
“That’s a great idea. Hilarie will love them,” Jensen said, beaming at him. “I’ll look for a silversmith. I think I’ll get them the traditional silver rattle.” Turning to his men, he added, “Richard, Rob, go with Jared to help him carry everything. I’ll take the others with me.” He pulled on Jared’s hand and gave him a quick kiss. “Don’t be long. I’ll meet you right back here.”
Jared held Jensen’s lapel and drew him close for another kiss. “I love kissing you whenever I want.”
Travis Wade stood outside the tobacco shop grimacing as Jared approached. He didn’t want another public scene, nor did he want Jared to ruin what he had with Adrianne.-But what’s this?-- Jared’s kissing another man. No, Travis wasn’t having that.
The moment Jensen stepped away, Richard had an opportunity to talk to Jared. “Your Highness, if I may-”
“I’m not ‘your Highness’ I’m Jared.”
“Actually, sir, you married the Prince so, yes, you are a ‘Highness’ now,” Rob explained as politely as he could.
Jared scoffed. “Only for a few days. Please, just call me Jared.”
Richard began again. “Well, Jared, Sir, it might not be only a few days. It could be significantly longer.”
“What do you mean? The Prince is banished. We’re leaving for Muldera within the week.”
“About that, you see, you, the Intended, married the Prince during his Year of Promise, consequently fulfilling the final obligation of the year. The Prince therefore can not be banished.”
Jared looked to Rob for confirmation, but Rob only shrugged.
Frustrated by the lack of support from Rob, Richard continued. “Look, if you want to go to Muldera, say nothing, and the two of you can live out your days on the beach. However, if you agree that Prince Jensen deserves to be king, all you have to do is return home.”
“Prince Jensen would make a wonderful king when the time comes,” Rob said.
“Is our marriage the only reason they banished him?” They shrugged as Jared looked from one man to another. Then he asked, “Do you think I can convince him to face his father?”
They both nodded. “He would do anything for you. All you have to do is ask,” Richard added.
Jared ruminated on their suggestion. “I will consider it, but I agree, Jensen would be an excellent king.”
Travis watched Jared walk away and waited for Jensen to pass by before calling out, “I had him first.”
Jensen took a second to get over the intrusion into his happy bubble. “Excuse me?”
“I said, that boy you’re with, I had him before you did. He traveled from the capital to be with me.”
“Jared isn’t a possession to have, he’s a person to cherish. Perhaps he came up here to be rid of you.” He side stepped Travis and moved on.
“Don’t know about that. He was fawning all over me yesterday. Begging me to bed him.”
Travis’s words hit their mark. A seed of self doubt grew in Jensen. Had Travis had spurned Jared and only settled for Jensen when Travis refused him? Then he touched his ring and remembered Jared’s words. No, Travis was lying, just like he had to Jared.
At that moment, Jared spotted the two men, though they didn’t notice him, engrossed as they were. He took a step closer, hoping Travis would not cause trouble.
“That sounds like another of your lies, Mr. Wade. Jared and I were married last night.”
Travis laughed bitterly. “Your husband is spoiled goods. I already had that ass.”
“Are you saying you’re a cancer that destroys whatever you touch? Perhaps we should warn your young fiancé.” Jensen’s calm delivery masked his simmering rage.
“She’s a right young lady. Jared’s nothing but trash. Always was always will be.”
“Speak ill of my husband again and you will regret it.” Jensen's voice was a growl.
“What’s a pretty boy like you going to do? You wouldn’t want to mess up your nice outfit.”
“I doubt dispatching you would raise much dust, but, like I said, if you insult my husband again, we will find out.” Jensen stood a little straighter, his chest a little broader. The fury in his eyes, unmistakable.
Travis glanced around. Other men were interested in their conversation. Thinking these men might aid his opponent, Travis backed away, mumbling, “Not worth the effort.”
“You’re right. You’re not.”
Jared wove around a retreating Travis to take Jensen’s face in his hands and kiss him soundly. “Thank you,” he whispered once the kiss ended.
Jensen blinked up at him, stunned by his sudden reappearance and the kiss. “You don’t have to thank me for a kiss. I’ll gladly give you one whenever you want.”
Jared smiled. “Good. What do you say we shop together? We shouldn’t spend time apart on the first day of our marriage.”
Jensen chuckled, took Jared’s hand and kissed it. “I agree.”
When they returned to the manor house, a servant stopped them.
“Pardon me, your Majesties, Prince Jensen, this has arrived for you.” He handed Jensen a sealed letter.
“Thank you.” Upon seeing the seal on the letter, Jensen said, “Jared, why don’t you go on to the kitchen. I’ll join you shortly.”
“Is everything okay?”
“I’m sure it’s arrangements for our trip to Muldera.”
Back in his room, Prince Jensen stared at his father’s seal on the envelope. The day had started perfectly. Waking up next to Jared and knowing that for the rest of his life, he would share a bed with Jared was everything he wanted. What demand could his father have? Had he not left quickly enough? Not wanting to keep Jared waiting longer than he had to, Jensen tore open the letter.
My dearest son,
I have done you a great disservice. When you came to me with Jared’s refusal, I only understood what it meant for our country, not what it meant for you. A good father would put his son before his country. I took Jared’s refusal as a personal insult and became unwilling to see what you saw in him.
Your mother pointed out the error in my ways. Come home. With Jared or without Jared, makes no difference. What matters is that you are here and that together we face the future. With your mother at my side, we can convince the court that choosing the best partner is more important than the time frame in which the choice is made.
Come home so that together we may devise a plan for your future.
Your Loving Father
Was this real? His father had changed his mind? Jensen rose quickly to share the news when the sight of the bed stopped him. This was no longer just his decision. Jared would have to agree to it. If his husband wanted to return to the capital and live under the scrutiny and confines of royal life, then they would. However, if he wanted to live a carefree life in Muldera, Jensen would ignore his father’s request.
He placed the letter in the fireplace and watched it burn. His future belonged with Jared. Whatever they did, they would do it together.
