PS7 Tutorial 09: Bethany Joy Galoetti
I debated on whether to go with Hilarie Burton, Sophia Bush or Joie. But I decided on Joie, because she's just so pretty and these promo pics from OTH are beautiful. So, here we go...are you ready for it?
1.) Gather up your images. I used these {1, 2}ones that I snagged from Superior Pics {link on my resource page} of Bethany Joy Galoetti, or Lenz, as most of us know her by.
2.) Make you canvas - I choose a 1024x768, transparent background. I know that this is all probably basic knowledge, but I just thought I'd put that in there, just for kicks.
3.) Make a new layer (layer-new) and then fill it with white (edit - fill - use: white)
4.) Pull your images onto the canvas & try and place them where you think you would like them.
5.) Once you have them where you want them to be - erase some of the top picture so you can see the background picture. Keep erasing until you get something like this:
6.) Merge the images together - NOTE: Make sure that this is the arrangement you want and like, there is no going back. Sharpen the edges once (Filter - Sharpen - Sharpen Edges).
7.) Duplicate the merged image once, desaturate it and set it to soft light.
8.) Add a texture. Any one you have or have made yourself would do, but make sure it has some eye-popping color to it. 1 Green Eye and Hybrid Genesis are excellent resources. Place this on top and set it to a blending mode that compliments the pictures. I set mine to saturation and ran a motion blur on it because of its original beaded appearance.I also duplicated it and set it to soft light, so I have something like this:
9.) Fish out another texture, but make sure it's different. Place this one on top of everything again. I actually choose a real photo of The Pleiades Star Cluster and set it to soft light.
10.) Duplicate the texture again and change the hue (Image - Adjustments - Hue/Saturation). Once the screen pops up, click on the colorize radio button to the right and then go and adjust the hue to a different shade. I chose a blue tone with these settings:
Hue: 227 Saturation: 77 Lightness: -34
11.) I love to color so you can almost immediately guess what I did next, right? COLOR! I added a color balance layer. Here are my settings:
Shadows: +41, -11, +55
Midtones: +25, +18, -27
Highlights: +22, +13, +18
Set this layer to Hard Light and fade the opacity to 80%
12.) Now, we get to add the brushes. I used various brushes from all over. But most of them were from Linzee, Annika Von Holdt and Orchidee. You can also find more brushes at the Deviant Art Collective. I used some stairs, flowers, words and sparkles. I used different layers for each of them and placed most of them below the original merged images of Joie. I also put some on top and in between the textures too. You just have to play around with the arrangment until you get the dreamy look you want.
13.) Okay, so instead of coloring again, I added another texture. Yes, I know. I'm a six year old who loves to color and go nuts with textures. But it's fun! I snagged two of zombiestock's textures. Any two random ones would do. Search through his gallery and pick out two old-antiquey looking ones. I placed one of them on the top of the other textures and the second one on the top of everything, including some of the brushes that were on top. Select a blending mode for the both of them that works for you. For me, I put the first one on Overlay and the second one to Color Burn @ 70%.

As you can tell, I played around with the blending modes of the last two textures and came up with some different looks for the wallpaper. The second one is placed on Saturation and the third one is on Hue.
14.) And since you all know that I'm still six years old and I still love to color, I duplicate the desaturated merged images of Joie and set it on top of the first texture only, not on top of everything. Fade the opacity to 50%.
15.) Now - adding text. I borrowed a quote from the wonderful Elizabeth Barrett Browning, using the font Witched (dafont.com) and place it by Joie's elbow. In my layer palette, it's on the top and viola! Dreamy Joie:
